Michael T Jan 18 The road of life is short. And this film lies in the path, sitting there, steam rising and flies buzzing around it. Your good sense should tell you avoid coming too near. The screenwriter is a renown Sci Fi author. In fact he was one of the greats. I can only speculate he desperatly needed the money or the final result was nothing like what he wrote. If you simply MUST watch this bomb, I recommend finding the MST3K rendition. See more Thomas K 10/22/2024 Only 3 words necessary: pure unadulterated garbage. See more 12/08/2015 A spy thriller and a sci-fi adventure all wrapped into one brief-yet-ridiculous mini-movie. Also based on a Heinlein story, Project Moonbase deals with a guy-girl "space force" team who find their moon mission interrupted by the arrival of a very stupid Russian spy. Much of the 63-minute flick consists of silly sets, insipid dialogue, casual sexism, and (especially towards the end) outright lunacy. And those outfits! Whose idea was it to give out Peter Pan hats and short-shorts to Earth's first guy/girl astro-squad? Still: simply and consistently silly, but not all that weird. See more 01/28/2014 As with a lot of these older sci-fi flicks, the rating on this one refers to the MST3K presentation, which makes a character whose name is pronounced Bright Eyes (Briteis? Really?) somewhat tolerable by slinging barbs at the screen until it's all over. Rent the MST3K version. See more 11/07/2012 The question I kept asking myself while watching Project Moonbase is "does this film have any sort of merit to it or is just another generic, poorly-made sci-fi film from the 50's?" Well, the answer is somewhere in the middle. The film isn't a masterpiece by any means, nor is it all that interesting. Instead, there are only the mildest of things that are good. There are some special effects in there that are decent, and they used split-screen photography in a clever way, but does it hold up as a story or themematically? No, absolutely not. You think it's going to be about a group of scientists doing some lunar exploration, but it ends up being a love story. The crew at Mystery Science Theater 3000 tackled this one, and even they couldn't do much with it. Other than that, I'd say skip it altogether because it's mainly just an exercise in boredom.
