Science teacher Ryland Grace (Ryan Gosling) wakes up on a spaceship light years from home with no recollection of who he is or how he got there. At 2½ hours plus, it also has its longueurs but there are some spectacularly beautiful moments and Gosling makes an engaging companion who makes something poignant as well as funny out of Grace’s unwelcome elevation to hero status.

It was a terribly pessimistic movie on humankind. I think this movie thought it was profound, but it was anything but profound. It couldnt decide: humanity shall unite together, or will it rip each other apart. Is it worth saving or participating in? Greatly disappointing when compared to fellow space movies.

I don't get movies like this. They seem to have no heart or soul. I'm supposed to feel something about the friendship between Ryan Gosling (who is good in everything he does) and a rock-spider from outer space? I didn't. Seemed 45 minutes too long too.
