In 1968, Jesse (John Robb), a Montreal youngster, edits a radical underground newspaper. His roommate, David (Gary Rader), an inactive drug user, wants Jesse to change his ways. But Jesse continues spreading his nonconformist political message, venturing to Chicago for the Democratic National Convention. David, in contrast, heads off with Karen (Elaine Malus), Jesse's girlfriend, to a commune. But Karen eventually tires of avoiding the big issues and heads for turbulent Chicago herself.
