      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

While it can't come close to the original's elemental horror, Psycho III makes a persuasive -- and blackly funny -- case for itself as a sequel.

Rogue 5 There's only so many times you can make the same movie and have it not be boring. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/12/23 Full Review jonathan m I found psycho 3 better than number 2, the Jessica Fletcher style news reporter is amazing with her snooping although she is more like A cagney and Lacey character, it just works so much a TV show where she solved crimes would have been great, maybe called Jigsaw . Sadly Hollywood is a big place and it's full of actresses and it's hard to become a big star such a shame she never done an awful lot Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Liam D This is the weirdest sequel In the Psycho franchise but hey it's still watchable Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/17/21 Full Review jordan m They really made back-to-back excellent decisions by making both of the wide-release sequels be more plot-heavy than most other slasher movies. They knew they weren't going to make as stylish a movie as the first one and instead focused on a different key strength, which is that the original novel and the premise in general was rich with opportunities as they kept things relatively ambiguous in the first one and left room for finer details to be ironed out like they did here. I don't necessarily agree with making Norman's origin story as convoluted as they did, but I did fully agree with them increasing the violence in this one because it helps set this one apart from the others in the trilogy. It's unfortunate Perkins never really directed again after this, he did a good job, and Scarwid was excellent too. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Psycho 3 is a pretty smart slasher trilogy in horror gene with chilling musical score and pitch perfect dark humor and Anthony Perkins did really fine work on both directing and star in this film. Anton Bitel Little White Lies this knowing sequel, unable to free itself of its established serial tropes, is inevitably a tragic romance. Sep 15, 2023 Full Review Michael Wilmington Los Angeles Times It fails any sequel's acid test: It feeds off the original without deepening it. Jun 29, 2021 Full Review Francie Noyes Arizona Republic It is still fun to watch Perkins slowly reveal Norman's overwhelming compulsions and he remains the central reason for seeing the film. Jun 29, 2021 Full Review Nick Rogers Midwest Film Journal Spends a lot of time trying to undo its predecessor’s problems. Albeit to a considerably less committed degree, it does as good a job as it can to go somewhere deeper while meeting the ante of lurid thrills.
