Emilie Black Cinema Crazed ... an interested "fly on the wall" type of view on a single family, as if the camera became a family member in who they all confide, as a group or individually. Rated: 4/5 Apr 12, 2020 Full Review Monique Jones Just Add Color I recommend you give Purdah a watch. You'll come from it feeling closer to a family who has defied the odds after life throws them every possible curveball. Jul 16, 2019 Full Review Marie Asner Phantom Tollbooth The film is compelling in that the camera is part of the family and then part of the population. The face-on view conveys the emotion each person feels at the time, then filming from afar, you see how the problems within this family can be multiplied... Rated: 4/5 Jun 3, 2019 Full Review Jennie Kermode Eye for Film The running time may be short but this is a film with a lot to say. Its ending is more positive than viewers might expect, pointing beyond individual achievement to a more potent legacy. Rated: 3.5/5 Mar 11, 2019 Full Review Bobby LePire Film Threat The narrative in the first half lacks weight and context. The film picks up later on, and the ending is uplifting and empowering, which makes the movie worth watching at least once. Rated: 7/10 Jun 24, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews

Kristina M Although the story follows a family and their personal hopes and dreams, it really shows the strength of many women in the India-based Muslin community. I felt like the subject of playing cricket was secondary to seeing the actual lives of the 3 sisters unfold and the challenges they face. This is a well done doc. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 08/29/22 Full Review Kris Y What a great doc. This is truly a story of strength, love and resilience. I just love how the film does not condemn the religious identity of the community yet does show just how truly different women's lives are depending on where they are located in the world. Although the story follows three sisters and their personal hopes and dreams, it really shows the strength of many women in the India-based Muslin community. Thank you Jeremy Guy for capturing the love, hope, dreams and strength of these people. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 08/29/22 Full Review Audience Member Purdah tells the story about a young Indian Muslim woman who is determined to play on a women's cricket team… but it's much more than that. Much, much more. Do you need to be a sports fan to appreciate this film? No. You just need to be able to appreciate life and the struggle. Purdah is a beautiful story and visually stunning. I find that most stories about this subject come off as pretentious and miss their target, but filmmaker Jeremy Guy executes his film flawlessly. I'm very eager to see what his next project is. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member Whether you're into cricket or not, you will find this a beautiful film. We regularly see such stories played out in fiction but it's so much more moving to experience as a documentary. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Compelling with a great message. Worth a watch. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member Purdah takes western viewers to a world that is otherwise inaccessible. It was fascinating to witness the perseverance of the movie characters to make the best out of the circumstances that life has given them. A humbling contrast to the freedom and opportunities that many of us take for granted. An ode to the power of the human spirit to push forward in the face of adversity.
