One of the biggest stars in country music, Dusty Wyatt Chandler (George Strait) grows disillusioned with the hollow performances and overly produced arena shows he's contractually obligated to play. In an effort to become grounded, Chandler walks away from the spotlight and goes back to the country town of his youth. After finding work at a ranch, he falls for the owner's daughter, Lula Rogers (Lesley Ann Warren). However, his manager (Isabel Glasser) is determined to keep the show going.

The director, Christopher Cain, brings not a hint of irony to any of this -- not even to the Vegas finale in which Dusty is supposed to rescue himself from glitz. Go to Full Review

As directed by Christopher Cain, Strait's first feature will probably not go down as a classic contemporary western nor a great modern musical. But it lopes along pleasantly, and Strait effortlessly makes the crossover into acting. Go to Full Review

If it were any cornier or mushier, it would be chowder, but this vehicle for country singer Strait generates a charming sweetness, the music is lively, and both Strait and Glasser are ingratiating new faces. Go to Full Review

This is an enjoyable movie for fans of country music, for whom the rich soundtrack should be a delight. And if they happen to have a crush on George Strait, so much the better. Go to Full Review

Amy S 07/28/2024 My Favorite Movie since the 90’s!! See more uncle p 06/19/2020 Story/Screenplay: (3/5) A nice little story that's easy to digest, but it's just a tad too bland for my provincial tastes. Duration/Tempo: (3/5) At 1 hour and 52 minutes, it's an average length movie that felt a bit longer. Cast & Crew: (3/5) George Strait is not a celebrated actor, but boy can he sing. Well done. The rest of the cast were fair to solid. Summary: (3/5) The story and cast were not quite good and the film felt a bit long. A borderline thumbs down. See more 03/28/2020 Not much of story but such King fans that we got passed it. Love the scenes when he gets away from the rat race. See more 08/12/2019 Can't say it's the best movie. But it's perfectly fine to have a movie that's specifically set up for it's fan base, and George Strait (being the King of Country Music) has a great fan base. It's slow pace, it's rural heartland setting, it's perfect soundtrack, and George Straits peaceful presence make it the perfect movie to watch with the windows open and a cup of sweet tea on a warm Midwestern night. The acting is so so but the plot and music makes up for it. See more Read all reviews
