Pretty stars aren't enough to make up for Purple Hearts' stereotype-riddled script and misguided approach to serious themes.

Audience Says

Purple Hearts' story will be problematic for a lot of viewers; fortunately, Sofia Carson and Nicholas Galitzine work hard to keep things from falling apart.

Aja Romano Vox The entire script is a bingo card full of politicized stereotypes. Aug 18, 2022 Full Review Luke Y. Thompson AV Club ...both Carson and Galitzine are beautiful people—presumably one of the film’s primary draws—but their love scenes convey neither heat nor emotional substance, and consequently aren’t much fun to watch. Jul 31, 2022 Full Review David Ehrlich indieWire This super-cheap Netflix Original is so determined to satisfy the algorithm that it would lack any coherent sense of self if not for the fact that it was chiefly designed as a star vehicle for Disney Channel grad Sofia Carson. Rated: C Jul 29, 2022 Full Review Pallavi Keswani The Hindu Attempting to straddle many different cliches, Purple Hearts quickly loses its footing and only a soulless adaptation is left standing. Jan 23, 2024 Full Review Nuha Hassan Nuha Hassan Everything about the movie is a little too on the nose, and Netflix seems more than happy to release insipid content that panders to the lowest common denominator. Lu S Nick Galitzine was great. Decent chemistry with Sofia. Overall, enjoyed the movie. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 07/22/24 Full Review Audience Member I loved it idk what you guys are on about. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/08/24 Full Review Renate H I loved story of two pilot opposites coming together for , yes, their own separate reasons then ultimately falling in love. The care they each give to the other is so sexy and romantic. Don’t even get me started on the music! I have every one and listen on repeat. The chemistry is really there between Galitzine and Carson. I loved this story so much that I’m dying to see if we can get a second part. However, I’m ok where it left us. **Spoiler** We know they are together. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/21/24 Full Review Mazza W An absolute tear jerker. Makes you want to believe in true love and the ultimate decency of humanity. This is usually what Nicholas Galitzine inspires in audiences in most of his films, but here it's done maybe to the best effect, and in front of a backdrop of a script that in lesser hands could have turned into cringe worthy, politicised platitudes. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/13/24 Full Review Audience Member I enjoyed the movie. Nicholas Galitzone did another great job; very talented actor, loving everything he does. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/29/24 Full Review Confidence K I enjoyed this movie and will definitely watch it again. It was worth every bit of my time even though I think that the ending was a bit rushed, which in my opinion, is okay. The movie explains how two people fall in love from pretending to be in love. I love the main characters, Sofia Carson and Nicholas Gitzaline. I think that they really did a great job. Moreover, Cassie's song "Come back home" was really emotional. It definitely raised the hopes of the soldiers. I love it. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 05/28/24 Full Review Read all reviews
