What to Know

Critics Consensus

A phantasmagorical distillation of William S. Burroughs' preoccupations that's by turns meandering and vital, Queer marks one of Daniel Craig's most sterling performances yet.

Bill Goodykoontz Arizona Republic At 2 hours and 17 minutes, the film is a little bloated, though the expansiveness and inventiveness of the filmmaking make that sound like complaining about too much dessert. Rated: 4/5 Dec 17, 2024 Full Review Rebecca Tucker Globe and Mail It is a remarkably beautiful portrait of agony, anchored by Craig’s remarkably understated performance. But it’s also a film at odds with itself. With Queer, Guadagnino has made a movie unsure of its own identity, visually and stylistically. Dec 16, 2024 Full Review Wendy Ide Observer (UK) [Daniel Craig's] performance is continually undermined by the arch artificiality of the film’s design. Shot largely on a set constructed at Rome’s Cinecittà studios, the whole look of the picture screams phoniness. Rated: 2/5 Dec 16, 2024 Full Review Eileen Jones The Jacobin Queer is a stubbornly inert film, striving for knockout emotional truths without ever once achieving them. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 3/5 Dec 21, 2024 Full Review Beth Accomando KPBS.org "Queer" feels vintage and period but also otherworldly. It is gorgeously crafted from the costumes and production design to the cinematography and music. Dec 19, 2024 Full Review Read all reviews

Russell E Great as a technical achievement. Daniel Craig puts up a tremendous performance. The third act loses me a little bit but the film is worth a watch and deserves the awards attention it’s getting. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/22/24 Full Review John C Patience paid off. Great film! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/22/24 Full Review Oscar R Possibly worst movie I have ever seen. Do not waste the time or money! If there is some hidden meaning to this film it was lost. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 12/22/24 Full Review Frank C What a journey! Photography is amazing and the acting superb. Loved every moment. You need to sit back and just let it happen to appreciate this masterpiece. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/22/24 Full Review Douglas F Weird. Makes no sense. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 12/21/24 Full Review Queer boy Odd and not what I expected, like 2 movies in one, reminiscent of Altered States! Rated 3 out of 5 stars 12/20/24 Full Review Read all reviews
