Critics Consensus

Despite the best efforts of a talented cast, Race to Witch Mountain is a tepid reboot that lacks the magic of the original.

Anthony Quinn Independent (UK) Cue a not very dazzling chase movie. Rated: 2/5 Apr 17, 2009 Full Review London Evening Standard This surely has to be the last of the series. Rated: 1/5 Apr 17, 2009 Full Review Chris Hewitt (UK) Empire Magazine An unexpectedly entertaining mixture of good, clean Disney fun with some rather more modern action scenes, lent charm by Johnson's natural swagger. One of the better family films in a while. Rated: 3/5 Apr 9, 2009 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review Shouldn’t a family film be about entertaining the family, and not just the youngest common denominator? Rated: 2/4 Dec 2, 2023 Full Review Mike Massie Gone With The Twins It is better than the last action comedy involving a taxi. Blu B The original isn't anything special to ride home about but my god compared to this it's a certified classic. The best thing is the music which is just boring and forgettable stuff. Everything literally everything else is just flat out bad. The kids just appear here in his cab with no buildup and it's just bizarre. Than it's completely oversaturated with too much over the top yet generic action scenes. Literally all the action in this just blends in with shaky cam like were watching a Bourne movie. The CGI is just terrible as well. It feels like stuff just happens when they are on the road. The action scenes just get so repetitive, don't add anything, and all look the same. The dialouge is super clunky, has lots of plot expose, and the performances in general are uneven at best. Everyone just says dialouge expose in a boring wooden or uninterested way. The rare downtime in this is spent rushing in plot expose really quickly before we get back to the action. Rinse and repeat. Skip this. It's kind of amazing they managed to not improve on a single thing in the first one. The Rock is the alien friendly cab driver. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 06/05/24 Full Review Read all reviews
