      Critics Consensus

Rams transcends its remote location -- and somewhat esoteric storyline -- by using the easily relatable dynamic between two stubborn brothers to speak universal truths.

Georgan G Recently saw the remake & one reviewer remarked the original was better. Tracked it down & it IS better. THIS is a classic drama of human relations. So well filmed and acted! Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member Very good , story of love . Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Be ready for a simple but powerful ending. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Late R With an expertly crafted atmosphere that makes use of its bleak surroundings, muted colour palette, and sparse dialogue, ‘Rams' is the story of two estranged, stubborn brothers whose strained relationship is put further to the test when both the their flocks of beloved sheep fall ill. Reading that, you might be wondering how that could possibly be anything but boring, but whilst it's certainly not an explosive film – it plods along at a slow pace throughout – and you're probably not going to be dying for a second viewing, the final act and resolution to the problems presented is affecting in its own way. One thing's for sure though, this isn't going to be everyone's cup of tea. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 09/01/19 Full Review zed b Interesting and different film, DEPICTING the relationship between 2 brothers. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Tim G Many jokes to make with one's own brother about carrying him around in to a front end loader. Nigel Andrews Financial Times After grim comedy comes the threat of grim tragedy. The ending is a do-or-die confrontation with the elements, powerfully presented. Rated: 4/5 Dec 27, 2016 Full Review Keith Uhlich Brooklyn Magazine Gummi and Kiddi's interactions tend toward the comical, but the rock-steady widescreen cinematography by Sturla Brandth Grøvlen lends the proceedings a deadpan aura. Nov 15, 2016 Full Review Jason Bailey Flavorwire This small, peculiar story becomes strangely involving; it's a movie that sneaks up on you, right up to the bursting-dam emotion of its extraordinary closing scenes. May 3, 2016 Full Review Diego Batlle Otroscines.com The movie takes off as a British comedy of manners and then it diverts into an a-la-Kaurismäki absurd tragic comedy. This is like Yorgos Lanthimos more grounded in reality, or Todd Solondz with a big, bushy white beard. Oct 21, 2022 Full Review Alexa Dalby Dog and Wolf Director and screenwriter Grímur Hákonarson has crafted an unmissable tragic and noble fable that celebrates humanity.
