The brother angle does give this story a distinctive dimension, and the brothers Estevez and Sheen, their pates shaved to help them represent the odd-looking Mitchells, do an uncanny, genuinely impressive job.

Emilio Estevez and Charlie Sheen star as the Mitchell brothers who built a porn empire in San Francisco by purchasing a movie theatre and creating their own adult movies to showcase in the theatre. Based on the true story of the brothers that brought the world Behind the Green Door and their unprecedented success which led to many excesses with sex and drugs a d eventually to tragedy. Fascinating story.

While it may not give us a full sense of what these men's work would incite, 'Rated X' is salvaged by two capable leads and plenty of fun with behind the scenes antics. Seeing how something like porn is almost treated as an art of its own is fascinating, even if the narrative jumps from film to film.
