dave s Rattlers, a cheap attempt at a horror film, is unimaginably bad in all respects. A herpetologist is summoned to investigate a series of rattlesnake attacks in the Mojave Desert. Inexplicably accompanied by a bitter female photographer (I suppose herpetologists lack the ability to take a snapshot of a snake), they eventually trace the source of the killings to a nearby military base, at which point things get really ridiculous. Virtually every shot is poorly framed, the sound is horrible, the score is ridiculous, the dialogue is brutal and the acting is wooden. To top it all off, the romance that blossoms between the two main characters comes out of nowhere and is laughable. To further top things off, many of the rattlesnakes aren't even rattlesnakes – you gotta have rattles if you want to be a rattlesnake. Otherwise, you're just a regular snake. That's how it works in the snake world. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Audience Member This is really a zero star film, but I got two stars of ironic entertainment out of this hilariously bad nature-gone-wild story about a deadly horde of rattlesnakes. A scientist discovers that the titular snakes have become infected by nerve gas dumped in the desert by the military, causing them to become highly aggressive. The film does get points for doing the unacceptable act of killing off children in the opening scenes, and it gets bonus points for filming those opening death scenes in a most supremely incompetent manner. Overall, "Rattlers" is not scary, has a ridiculous story, but is a must-see for connoisseurs of bad cinema. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/31/23 Full Review Audience Member We did it in the name of science. A small town police officer and a scientist begin investigating a string of strange deaths that appear to be from snake bites. They track the clues back to a strange military base in the desert. They get onto the base and begin interviewing people and discover a strange cargo was buried in a mine. Could the cargo be tied to the snake outbreak? "Isn't it kind of strange these kids being bit so many times?" John McCauley, director of Deadly Intruder, delivers Rattlers in his directorial debut. The storyline for this picture is bland, cliché, and doesn't have much going for it. The kill scenes are not that intense and the special effects are less than mediocre. There aren't many memorable performances delivered by the cast. "I didn't think snakes traveled in groups." This was recently on Turner Classic Movies (TCM) so I had to DVR it for the Halloween season. This was a below average addition to the horror genre that is definitely worth skipping. I wouldn't recommend this picture. "I just came to watch the burning of Rome." Grade: F Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Most of the scenes are sloppily shot, substituting unconvincing rattler stock footage in some instances. RATTLERS is a passable time waster that doesn't compare to the more fun AIP films of this sort. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member Cheap dumb plot, many silly moments, and a crazy stupid ending. In a way it's so bad it's good, but even then, there isn't much that can redeem it. The opening scene is a bit on the shocking side, while the rest of the film just goes in all sorts of wrong directions. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member The "hero" does nothing productive and the whole thing is just inexplicable. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Read all reviews
