A gently humanist story of the American West from Max Walker-Silverman (A Love Song), Rebuilding follows Dusty (Josh O'Connor), a reserved, divorced father whose ranch has burned down in a devastating wildfire. Now living in a trailer community on a government-run campsite, Dusty finds solace with his new neighbors who have also lost everything, quietly reassembles his life, and starts reconnecting with his ex-wife Ruby (Meghann Fahy) and young daughter Callie-Rose (Lily LaTorre). Filmed against the rapturous backdrop of southern Colorado, Rebuilding is a ruminative, moving portrait of resilience and human connection in the wake of loss.

Peter Rainer FilmWeek (LAist) It does have a certain low-keyless that is affecting, and Josh O'Connor is very good in it. It's just that, ultimately, it doesn't amount to a whole lot. Nov 25, 2025 Full Review Tim Grierson Los Angeles Times The story’s studied minor-key tone can occasionally come across as mannered, yet “Rebuilding” possesses its own delicate grace, especially once Dusty endures other losses — some personal, others more existential. Nov 24, 2025 Full Review Randy Myers San Jose Mercury News O’Connor’s lived-in performance is a beauty in this fragile, quiet reminder that even when life is precarious, there’s hope that something will emerge that is just as important to protect and cherish. Rated: 3/4 Nov 20, 2025 Full Review Keith Garlington Keith & the Movies Walker-Silverman drives it all, using a form of minimalism that relies on meditative pacing and a unique visual language. Through it he’s able to tell an affecting and resonating story of resilience and self-discovery. It’s impossible not to be moved. Rated: 4.5/5 Dec 1, 2025 Full Review Blake Howard One Heat Minute Rebuilding is not a film of grand catharsis. Its beauty lies in accumulation: the glances exchanged, the chores shared, the small kindnesses that form a scaffolding around trauma. Rated: 3.5/4 Nov 29, 2025 Full Review John Stark Mac the Movie Guy Josh O’Connor is a compelling reason to slog through rebuilding, but this film felt three hours long while only being half that length. Stephen T such a thoughtful, beautifully constructed story about a guy just trying to get by in the face of life. great casting. as much is said in the silences as in the dialogue. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/25/25 Full Review Thomas M a powerful, quiet slice of life film. Josh O'Connor gives a magnificent, nuanced performance as a rancher fallen on hard times. the cinematography and music are stella. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/21/25 Full Review Nathan Beautifully shot scripted acted Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/16/25 Full Review Marc S It’s a lovely movie, not much happens but the emotions run high. Down-to-earth characters and great cast. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/01/25 Full Review Moody C It feels like everything happening at real time in country since movie is super slow. There is no plot just experience of being in country where animals roam and there are beautiful mountain scapes. Great for city folks looking for escape but for country folks they prolly scratching their heads because they cud just stay home and watch themselves or neighbors for free. When movie ends, it just ends with no resolution no nothing. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/18/25 Full Review Isabel D Simple yet affecting! Another brilliant performance from Josh O’Connor, truly a generational talent. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 11/30/25 Full Review Read all reviews
