Audience Member Feels like a lost episode of the Twilight Zone. A young Robert Conrad makes a small appearance. Looking at the film today (67 years later) you'd think it'd be a show piece on Fox News or played at a GOP meeting, but I doubt it'd ever be played in either of those venues. It's a bit light on the subject but the subtext is fascinating. The average Joe depicted is a 40ish dad, 2 kids, attractive wife with a big house. Joe is a ex-vet and a Union Machinist. He ends up in a Soviet nightmare when he shirks his PTA, Veteran and Union meetings to go bowling with his buddies, watch TV or make moves on the wife. In other words he's too comfortable with the rewards of American Freedoms and skips the responcibilities. Funny with Commie demonization of Unions today by the Right Wing in this film Unions are portrayed as one of the bastions of liberty fighting Communism. An unintentional funny moment is when Joe is working and has to fill he "Quota" of 60 units. I chuckled because it's parallel to today's capitalisic working enviroment where management demands greater and greater productivity out of the worker, minus the machine guns.
