dustin d Red Sun Rising is something of a typical, though inferior example of late '80s/early '90s cop/gangster action film. The flat lighting and electronica soundtrack perfectly exemplifies the era and genre. The acting is horrendous, but fans of the genre are forgiving. Less forgivable is shoehorning in every Asian stereotype with either no self-awareness or for cringy comedic relief. These could be overlooked if the fight scenes were better captured. As the fights, which were choreographed fairly well with recognized, world-class fighters, were shot in a choppy style that emphasized sound effects over the stunts, the overall effect was boring. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member The Dragon tackles international terrorists and bigotry one extremely drawn out roundhouse kick at a time. James Lew also costars as "that evil guy" who kills his foes by touching their chest softly with two fingers. Pretty shitty villain. Don eventually learns the secret of fake martial arts and redeems his murdered partner. It's as original as it sounds.
