      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Painless if largely unmemorable, I'm Reed Fish fails to distinguish itself from countless other small-town comedies populated by amiably quirky characters.

Audience Member Normally I love Alexis Bledel but this movie was way too slow moving for me. Even after 45 minutes nothing really happened and in that 45 minutes I didn't laugh at all. I didn't want to bother sitting through the rest. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member Tries to be clever with a gimmick, minor spoilor: movie within a movie. It barely sticks out from other typical love triangle quirky romance movies. A significant lack of story telling near the end leaves many questions to the audience mind to fill the gaps of an already cookie cutter story with minimal substance. However, I can believe a story like this could happen in real life and the acting was fairly solid. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member Simply terrible. Such a waste of good actors' talent. Needed a better script and fuller plot. And Jill. ugh. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/13/23 Full Review Audience Member good acting, but terrible everything else. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/21/23 Full Review Audience Member Surprisingly a good movie. Not my usual, shot-em-up action pick. It has a great story and great acting--a very unique film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/15/23 Full Review Audience Member that tiny knot made me to where Iam today, I guess you just need to be yourself and know who you are, who am I? Iam reed fish. Frank Scheck Hollywood Reporter The relentless quirkiness of the proceedings proves wearisome, and the bizarre structural conceit is not enough to compensate for the overly familiar characterizations and story line. Jun 9, 2007 Full Review Toddy Burton Austin Chronicle Perhaps in more experienced hands, this self-reflection could achieve insight, but as director Adler's first feature and Fish's first produced screenplay, this mess was better left inside the writer's head. Rated: 1/5 Jun 8, 2007 Full Review Jeannette Catsoulis New York Times Filled with painfully awkward men with painfully bad haircuts, I'm Reed Fish exhibits less energy than a sloth on Seconal. Rated: 2/5 Jun 4, 2007 Full Review Dorothy Woodend The Tyee (British Columbia) [I'm Reed Fish] is pretty much by the book -- a love triangle, a quirky small town ripped right from your favourite sitcom, a little tragedy, a little comedy. Aug 23, 2017 Full Review S. Jhoanna Robledo Common Sense Media Kid-friendly rom-com lures but doesn't hook. Rated: 2/5 Oct 22, 2007 Full Review David Cornelius eFilmCritic.com A breezy, wholly engaging ninety minutes spent with a delightful cast. Rated: 4/5 Sep 24, 2007 Full Review Read all reviews
