After the 1948 partitioning of Hindustan, Manzur Ahmed (Kulbhushan Kharbanda) and his family are among the many Muslims who have to relocate to avoid religious persecution. They have to cross political borders in order to establish a new home in Pakistan. Luckily, they have the aid of the Refugee (Abhishek Bachchan), a mysterious wanderer who smuggles exiles past border security, although Ahmed's clan may prove to be the Refugee's most difficult job yet.
