Victor Pineyro Seventh Art Studio Cooke had to die twice in front of the eyes of a demoralized society. Once through the eyes of those who loved him, and once through the eyes of those who only listened. Amazing documentary. [Full review in Spanish] Rated: 8/10 Sep 30, 2021 Full Review PJ Nabarro Patrick Nabarro For such a relatively short running time, Re-Mastered: The Two Killings of Sam Cooke does an exemplary job of exploring the dual thesis that its title alludes to. Rated: 3/5 May 17, 2020 Full Review India Lewis The Arts Desk The Two Killings of Sam Cooke is a programme of multiples, a film which plays with doubles, divergences, and different narrative strands. Smith Decider The Two Killings of Sam Cooke rightfully weaves the music around its narrative, which by the way, is some of the greatest American music ever made. Feb 22, 2019 Full Review Mark A. Perigard Boston Herald The fact that it accomplishes so much in less than 90 minutes is a testament to the love and respect Cooke still inspires. Rated: B Feb 7, 2019 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member This is the 2nd documentary of Sam Cooke I have seen. The other one is Lady you shot me. This is better because you follow SC life from craddle to grave, and it is not focusing only his death. Good to hear both colleaugues and friend's. It is good that the films mention his flaw (adultery and womanizing), that he is human with assets and shortcomings, It would have been fun If they had interviewed One of his children. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member It's about time Sam Cooke got the respect he deserves. I have enjoyed his music for a long time, and I knew some details about his death. This doc really helped fill in a lot holes that I didn't know. It gives a good overview of his importance in music and the civil rights movement. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member Chilling and sad. Mr. Cooke was a brilliant, beautiful man, deserving of so much better. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/14/23 Full Review Audience Member I cried when seeing the interviewees reaction to Change Is Gonna Come. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/13/23 Full Review Audience Member The attitude of this film made it easy to dislike. Instead of focusing on the joy of his music, the main theme of this film was "Whitey keeping the black man down." He gets killed in Compton hotel by a black motel clerk after being robbed by an Asian hooker... but the filmmaker theorizes that "Whitey was behind it." Truly, a joyless film. It's like watching CNN. Sam Cooke deserved a better film. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/08/23 Full Review Audience Member How hard is it to find people that would swear the local womanizer or mean drunk was a great guy that would never attack a woman? It isn't that hard and that's the problem with this episode. They have clearly gone out of their way to find people that swear Sam would have never attacked the women that shot him. Of course they don't mention that the official autopsy of him found a blood alcohol level that would have clearly indicated he was drunk. And the fact is even the nicest guy may turn into a mean SOB when drunk, I've seen it and it happens. Yet they ignore the fact that he was drunk because that isn't going to fit their agenda. Sorry but you don't need to continually try to manufacture conspiracies where none exist. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Read all reviews
