Monica Castillo RogerEbert.com Heading into the homestretch of this year's election, Represent feels like a balm. Rated: 3/4 Aug 14, 2020 Full Review Michael Phillips Chicago Tribune Regional politics is local politics is national politics. It's revealing to see how the sausage gets made, and who gets to make it. Rated: 3/4 Aug 14, 2020 Full Review Lovia Gyarkye New York Times Jones, Bird and Cho all face varying degrees of microaggressions and Bachelder does a good job of showing that these moments reflect larger, more systemic issues. Aug 13, 2020 Full Review Ryan Syrek The Reader (Omaha, NE) The film follows three women running for office for the first time as they face aggressions too macro to be micro and voters whose attitudes may make you question the feasibility of this whole democracy thing. Rated: B Aug 21, 2020 Full Review Tom Meek Cambridge Day What's remarkable about Bachelder's doc is the degree of access and trust she gains from her subjects. Rated: 3/4 Aug 20, 2020 Full Review Lisa Trifone Third Coast Review The film skillfully understands that by limiting its own scope, there's an opportunity to invest deeply in each of the women's stories. dave d When 'Knock Down the House' was released last year it was a great look at what can be accomplished against the grain. This film falls far short of that (perhaps not for trolls), but it is fine. The director can't find subjects that have charisma or the ability to communicate a message which may be intentional, but it makes the film just sit there. I couldn't figure out any reason to root for any of these three women, but I admire their courage. The movie just seems forced. It's not revolutionary and mostly forgettable, but it's in focus and that's always a plus. As a fan of documentary films, we are lucky there are so many with distinct and illustrative points of view. This isn't one that I'll remember. Final Score: 5/10 Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Read all reviews
