Critics Consensus

Though its story is second-rate, The Rescuers Down Under redeems itself with some remarkable production values -- particularly its flight scenes.

William Thomas Empire Magazine A worthy diversion for the very young, but against their more venerable stablemates -- notably DuckTales -- The Rescuers's identification/memorableness factor remains second division. Rated: 2/5 Nov 13, 2009 Full Review Variety Staff Variety This sort-of sequel to the 1977 hit The Rescuers boasts reasonably solid production values and fine character voices. Too bad they're set against such a mediocre story that adults may duck. Mar 26, 2009 Full Review Time Out As for the animation, computer technology invests contemporary features with sometimes breathtaking dynamism, but outback flora being what it is, this isn't the most colourful Disney movie. Jun 24, 2006 Full Review Carson Timar ButteredPopcorn While the film might not be perfect, it does feel like The Rescuers Down Under is one of the more well-rounded and deserving Disney features that gets overlooked and discredited all too often. Dec 31, 2023 Full Review Beth Dunlop Miami Herald Newhart and Gabor are truly delightful as Bernard and Miss Bianca. The characters are tailored to their particular comedic talents, so The Rescuers Down Under has a wry edge to it. John Candy has his funny moments as well. Rated: 3/4 Aug 18, 2021 Full Review Mike Massie Gone With The Twins The overall story is less poignant than in the previous film, but the main characters still have charm and several new supporting roles are undeniably creative. Sarah W This Movie is so Wonderful. Tristan Rogers at its finest for voicing Jake. I wish Jake should get his own movie that is a sequel after this one where he has to go to a different world to stop a villain who is more sinister than McLeach, even though that would never happen. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/14/24 Full Review Faiz D A childhood favorite. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 08/29/24 Full Review Dale R Bernard and Miss Bianca are back in the first Disney animated sequel. Once again Bob Newhart and Eva Gabor reprise their roles and do a great job. The addition of John Candy as Wilbur is welcome and adds some great comedic scenes and lines to the movie. The background animators/artists really stepped up their game in this movie as the Australian outback looks amazing. One of the best flight scenes in animation is in this movie and I think it is worth checking out just to see that. The villain is forgettable, and there is a love triangle story that I thought was worthless as Bernard is trying to propose to Miss Bianca. I will give credit to Cody, who seems more kid-like and I believe this movie breaks the animated kid character curse of the last two decades. If you liked the previous movie you may also enjoy this one. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 07/07/24 Full Review Braden A The theme is consistent where two mice go and rescue a boy from a man who is poaching a bald eagle. This a must see as John Candy has an amazing voice over performance Rated 5 out of 5 stars 06/30/24 Full Review Ryland C This honestly just a weak sequel to the Rescuers. I can not for the life of me remember a single thing that happened in this movie. It’s just that bland and forgettable. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 06/25/24 Full Review Noe G The rescuers down under is my most favorite Disney film. I give this movie. A 10/10 Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/06/24 Full Review Read all reviews
