      Resident Evil: Retribution

      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

Resident Evil: Retribution offers everything one might reasonably expect from the fifth installment in a heavily action-dependent franchise -- which means very little beyond stylishly hollow CGI-enhanced set pieces.

Spike G Terrible garbage trash horrible Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/17/24 Full Review Yudha S CGI good, tapi beberapa ada yg kurang Rating : 6/10 Average Follow my Instagram : @yudhasatria955 Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/21/24 Full Review Gaming U Great franchise overall Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/09/24 Full Review Audience Member Over a decade later and this is still one of the franchise’s most fun installments even if it is stupid at times Milla Jovovich is back again as Project Alice with director Paul W.S. Anderson Taking place immediately after the previous entity Alice and her survivor friends are separated once more thanks to Umbrella unleashing their devastation Jill Valentine from part 2 was captured and brainwashed and she now leads the team of soldiers to unlock Alice’s potential Alice wakes up in an underground facility in Russia beneath the ice with help from Ada Wong and Luther among others in a strike team The Red Queen activates her deadly bio weapons to stall them but of course Alice isn’t going down without a fight The movie is filled with so many cool action sequences; They take advantage of the 3D digital filmmaking this time along with bigger explosions making it feel like an actual video game I do love the fun set pieces with the Lickers, the Axe Man, Nazi zombies, and the new characters Leon S. Kennedy, Ada Wong, and Barry Burton along with bringing back familiar faces like Colin Salmon, Michelle Rodriguez, and Sienna Guillory even if they’re just clones We also see Alice develop a maternal bond this time with a little girl making her more than just someone who shoots things up The sound mixing is excellent too with Tomandandy returning to do the score It’s definitely straightforward escapism and the final fight is very intense This paved the way for the final chapter and showed since 2002 this series keeps upping the ante Again I don’t hate these movies even if they do tend to stray away from the source material on a couple occasions Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 09/15/23 Full Review Paul R love the RE anima all of it Rated 5 out of 5 stars 04/20/23 Full Review nathan r 5 films in you should already know if you're going to enjoy this or not. By this point its well and truly the Milla show. Actually my favourite from the franchise. What we have is a Resi greatest hits with a lot of returning faces a sprinkling of actual characters from the games and a bunch of kinetic set pieces. Once again its an action packed sci-fi zombie movie that requires you to leave critical thinking at the door. My biggest complaint is that it sets up an epic final movie that is never paid off. It is what it is and far superior to the latest attempts to reboot the franchise. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating

Marc Savlov Austin Chronicle Nobody goes to a Resident Evil movie expecting a classic but this fifth entry in the series is just plain cruddy. Rated: 2/5 Sep 21, 2012 Full Review Rafer Guzman Newsday The script is incoherent and the acting is terrible -- avatars would have been an improvement. Rated: 1/4 Sep 17, 2012 Full Review Joe Neumaier New York Daily News Thuddingly awful. Rated: 1/5 Sep 17, 2012 Full Review Brian Eggert Deep Focus Review The degree to which this fast-food movie and its predecessors are completely forgettable is counteracted by Anderson’s usual clip-show recaps at the beginning of each new sequel. Rated: 1/4 Sep 27, 2022 Full Review Mike Massie Gone With The Twins To make up for the utter lake of sensibility, the film incorporates lots of spontaneous action, sudden crashes or explosions or gunfire, and hyperactive zombies. Rated: 1/10 Dec 2, 2020 Full Review David Hogan hoganreviews.co.uk I was starting to sort of like these films, in a silly way, but this was so empty, filled with so many long scenes of characters just shooting machine guns at each other....
