Philip Martin Arkansas Democrat-Gazette ...those who get their history from the movies get the history they deserve - still, if Restless Heart causes people to Google terms like "Manichaeism" and the "Donatist schism," we might count that as an aggregate good. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/20/23 Full Review Audience Member Overall a good movie, and probably one of the best efforts of the drive toward good Catholic cinema over the past several years. I especially liked the portrayal of St. Ambrose in the story, though Augustine's conversion itself felt far too hasty and lacked the angst expressed in the Confessions ("Grant me chastity...but not yet"). To me, this is the most important part of Augustine's conversion for modern readers, and yet it is pretty much completely missing from the film. This wrestling between Augustine's intellect, heart, and flesh is drama. It's what makes Augustine a compelling conversion story, and also what makes his story an excellent topic for film...and yet it is almost completely missing. One wonders if it was considered too dark for a hagiographical family film...but it's the truth about his life, and one cannot understand the saint without it.
