Audience Member "Three weeks ago Providence was a sane enough place." A rich scientist from an old-money, politically-involved family with deep Rhode Island roots rediscovers the occultic works conducted by an identical ancestor hundreds of years prior. The scientist, played by Chris Sarandon (The Princess Bride, Fright Night, Child's Play, The Nightmare Before Christmas) becomes convinced he can travel through time and live eternally if his experiments are conducted properly and thoroughly. Unfortunately, his experiments attract unwanted attention from the stench of rotten meat and a few human corpses. The discovery of the latter leads the wife to hire a PI in order to trail her mad hubby. The film starts with a shot of low flying over downtown Providence, but there are several extra buildings matted in! Apparently, that was the lone shot in Rhode Island as it was filmed in Canada. Which could explain why a 30 minute drive to Pawtuxet Valley took over 2 hours, or why they ate hot dogs instead of wieners, or why no locals had New England accents. Based on Lovecraft's "Case of Charles Dexter Ward," I wish they'd make a film based in the time in which the story took place. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member Pretty great lost little Lovecraft adaptation. I think it's the closest to the source material I've seen. It's a strange, morbid little film noir. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member Great effects, awful movie Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member Dan O'Bannon's 'lost' film. Based on HP Lovecraft's 'Charles Dexter Ward'. O'Bannon's version of this film was overhauled by the studio while he was dealing with a devastating illness. The results were mixed, and the film went straight to home video. The optical effex are laughable, the same way Hellraiser's are. But the practical effects are an A+, with some of the scariest creatures I've seen in any film! Also called 'Shatterbrain'. RIP Dan. Just fyi, Scream Factory is releasing The Resurrected on Region A blu-ray on Sept. 12, 2017. There is a German region B blu-ray release already available. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/16/23 Full Review Audience Member An excellent HP Lovecraft film, much overlooked Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Old School horror thriller, the kind they simply don't make anymore Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/23/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
