Phil Villarreal Arizona Daily Star Comparisons to the universally lauded "The Wizard of Oz" (1939) are inevitable, but the scruffy sequel holds steady in many categories. Audience Member Good thing I saw the series first before the actual first special from Rankin Bass. Before you say it's a claimed sequel that copies the original story it's not, it's more of a faithful retelling the company made in comparison.
