Revenge slices and dices genre tropes, working within an exploitation framework while adding a timely -- yet never less than viscerally thrilling -- feminist spin.

A stunning reinvention of the rape-revenge exploitation film that had me sitting at the edge of my seat first frame to last. Go to Full Review

This first feature from French director Coralie Fargeat is an impactful entry into the rape-revenge subgenre that attempts to shift the focus from the male gaze to the female perspective. Go to Full Review

Revenge is a promising first film and, with any luck, perhaps Fargeat will approach her next film with more of an eye on instilling some dimensionality into her characters to achieve a stronger sense of catharsis. Go to Full Review

Zenakss N. @Natas 4d Definitely entertaining and kept my attention.. A lot of unbelievable typical Hollywood antics but all in all.. Pretty Good.. 7.5/10 See more Leon H Nov 29 Having used rotten tomatoes for years, I finally created an account just to review this movie - because RT screwed me. 90%+ critics score is just mind boggling and the viewer score of 61% amazes me too. I was expecting a gritty French thriller - what I got was an exploitation movie in which I hated the characters, the dialogue, the acting, the decision making of said characters, the ridiculous survivability of our protagonist and the endless pints of blood that several characters seem to possess in flagrant disregard to human anatomy. I wanted to turn this off after an hour but my wife was in a spiteful mood and forced me to watch to the end. Luckily, by the time the final third of the movie began she was willing to join in taking the p*ss out of it and I can honestly say it became funnier than most comedies I've seen this year. This was so bad it's really put me off watching the director's next film - the Demi Moore starring 'The Substance'. With any luck the characters in that movie will have been written with more substance. And I don't want to hear the argument about female empowerment when grading this movie, as regardless of message, the film still has to be good. This is a massive 👎from me. See more Noel L Nov 15 Never underestimate girl power. There is nothing pleasant about this movie, but that doesn't mean it was a bad movie. It was just tough to watch for the majority of the film See more Justin W Nov 4 Only the French could make a movie that was almost good to be this extremely frustrating. See more Johnny B @Johnnymello Oct 30 The monstrous and realistic construction of Revenge demands a lot from the lead performance, and Matilda Lutz delivers masterfully everything that is imposed on you to endure. Presenting a theme that has been explored many times before, Revenge manages to create a bloodier and more violent plot than many have attempted, delivering an agonizing and desperate ending with a protagonist unable to accept death. See more Susan J Oct 22 The plot is so stupid this movie would be better marketed as a comedy because the constant nonsensical actions of the characters is almost laugh out loud. This movie would be more entertaining if they supplied some of the magical mushrooms the girl took to become a surgeon, munitions expert, and pyrotechnic genius, overnight. Don’t understand all the glowing reviews unless people were coerced. See more Read all reviews
