Mike W Mar 3 The movie was enough different that it was interesting. Dialogue was good. Taylor as mentioned was a little too brooding. Jack Elam had a much better role, and did well with it, compared to later in his career. There was one scene I thought was weird, when Anthony Quinn runs over to a bed and curls up on its corner. Do not know if it was a bad adlib or just what happened there, but it stood out. Ava Gardner was beautiful and a treat to watch her in this movie. See more 05/17/2015 A bit soapy of a western involving rather Ava Garder and her husband Howard Keel fighting baddie Anthony Quinn, who's trying to run them off their land. Robert Taylor is Quinn's brother who helps Quinn at first, but then later sides with Gardner. It's not all that good of a western, but it's a strong cast and particularly Gardner carry the day here. Love, friendship and loyalty in a reconstruction era film. Lawless Mexican banditos vs a visionary, law abiding land developer. And at the center of all the trouble, a beautiful Ava Gardner. Also featuring a younger, thinner Jack Elam. I swear Eli Wallach is doing a cameo at the very beginning of this film (he gets chased by a woman, up a set of stairs, where he's promptly kicked by Quinn's character Jose). I even went back and watched it again. Sure looks like him, sure sounds like him. Very good movie. 3.5 stars plus.
