Critics Consensus

A darkly humorous revenge thriller with satisfying depth and a dash of savory quirk, Riders of Justice makes another compelling case for Mads Mikkelsen as an all-purpose leading man.

David Stratton The Australian Suffused with character-driven comedy, and not avoiding elements of violence, this is an outstanding film. The ensemble cast is flawless and the witty and deliciously complex screenplay is among the best we've seen this year. Rated: 4.5/5 Oct 2, 2021 Full Review Alison Willmore New York Magazine/Vulture Mikkelsen manages to simultaneously lean into and dismantle tough-guy tropes while playing a stoic soldier reeling from the death of his wife in a train crash. Aug 11, 2021 Full Review Mark Kermode Kermode & Mayo's Film Review Fun in a "what on earth is happening" kind of way. Aug 5, 2021 Full Review Joonatan Itkonen Toisto.net Riders of Justice is a thoughtful, compassionate affair, the kind you remember missing as you experience it. You feel safe in its hands, even as it careens towards fates that feel inevitable and horrifying. Rated: 5/5 Jul 5, 2024 Full Review Ben Flanagan Vague Visages For a films shot like prestige TV that is dour and tense, he draws a large family of compelling characters. And that makes Riders of Justice worth giving consideration beyond an opening night film — the art of the hangout movie lives, after all... Feb 7, 2024 Full Review Carmen Paddock TAKE ONE Magazine ...the violence inflicted by co-conspirators on each other – be the emotional or literal socks to the jaw – registers somewhere between hilarity and pathos. Mike K A truly rare gem. Complex, funny, tragic, violent, and sweet. A marvel. Don't try to compare this work with any other. Weird, strange, goofy, crazy script. Brilliant. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/22/24 Full Review alan g Critics only liked it because it is foreign and dubbed. They obviously didn't understand it. Gratuitous excessive graphic violence. Not funny. Since when does a "comedy" have so much violence and gore? Spoiler alert: the reason for the revenge turned out to be false so the whole premise for the movie is wrong. The supporting cast is terrible. Hugely overrated. Mads is ok. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 11/05/24 Full Review Dom L A truly memorable and entertaining character based action thriller. Stellar performances across the board, with Mads Mikkelsen ace-ing the lead. Strong screenplay and an excellent visual approach to the material. High recommend. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 06/04/24 Full Review Alec B An action film that takes a fairly standard premise and then runs with it to some really surprising places. By the end you're more moved than thrilled. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/10/24 Full Review Cyns Corner I loved this movie. Can't think of any cons about it at all, so for now I'm giving it a 5-star. This was a great blend of action, comedy, and drama - touching on serious issues such as loss and the difficulty in dealing with it, childhood trauma/abuse, and self acceptance. The comedy helped to counter the dark themes and struck a perfect balance, not becoming goofy or slapsticky. Mads Mikkelsen is growing on me as an actor. Wish this had come out on the big screen in my area. Video review: youtu.be/wo-qngejiKg Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/24/23 Full Review Craig M Profound in the good, Shakespeare way. A lot of action with the philosophy and pathos intertwined. Sensitive treatment by competent actors. You get to think and feel, while your inner grounding is also satisfied.
