Andy Webster New York Times The blending of vast sets and digital effects is not quite seamless in Chow Hin Yeung's kung fu period extravaganza "Rise of the Legend," but it's close. Mar 11, 2016 Full Review Noel Murray Los Angeles Times A stylish, rousing throwback epic, telling the fictionalized story of Wong as a young man, circa 1868. Mar 10, 2016 Full Review Michael Nordine Village Voice Rise of the Legend's jumble of backstories, flashbacks, and betrayals can't hope to carry the same weight as its punches. Mar 8, 2016 Full Review Betty Jo Tucker ReelTalk Movie Reviews Too many flashbacks and repetitive fight scenes almost overpower Eddie Peng's fine performance. Mar 13, 2016 Full Review Daniel Eagan Film Journal International Martial-arts movies don't have to be so simplistic and humorless. Mar 9, 2016 Full Review Yip Wai Yee The Straits Times (Singapore) Taiwanese heart-throb Peng is certainly well cast as the slicker and more hunky Wong -- his signature bad-boy smirk is always at the ready and his famous abs are, gasp, on full display in several scenes. Carlos M Love the story and action Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Audience Member The action was quite exceptional but the story line was not that good. It didn't gave me an urge to watch it until the end. I was fed up that I can't even continue until the end. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member No ha conseguido engancharme. He dejado de verla por aburrimiento Rated 1 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member An interesting take on Wong Fei Hung's origin story. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/16/23 Full Review Audience Member I've seen quite a few different telling of Fei Hung and this is the most cgi and wire work I believe to have seen in his telling. It is somewhat a prequel and a bit more on the bloodier side but the action is still pretty good. it does get hard to follow if you're not paying much attention since it jumps back and forth in story timelines without much notice. not the best story of Hung I've seen but it's still watchable. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 02/09/23 Full Review Audience Member pretty dang good movie Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
