Andy Webster New York Times "Rites of Spring" yields a slender bounty. Rated: 2/5 Jul 26, 2012 Full Review Noel Murray AV Club The acting is shaky, the scare scenes are fairly stock, and it takes way too long for Reynolds to put all his pieces in play, especially given that the movie doesn't have much of an ending. Rated: C- Jul 26, 2012 Full Review Calum Marsh Slant Magazine Padraig Reynolds's film has no interest in self-awareness, and in fact wears stupidity as a sort of badge of honor. Rated: 0/4 Jul 22, 2012 Full Review Patrick Cavanaugh The Wolfman Cometh Strong character dynamics and a genuinely thrilling story sets it apart from similar genre fare. Rated: 3/5 Sep 24, 2023 Full Review Abbie Bernstein Assignment X Ultimately, Rites of Spring is the kind of low-budget horror movie to watch if you feel the need and nothing more promising is available. It's no worse than many others, but no better either. Audience Member It follows in the well-worn low budget tradition of taking a crime caper and turning it into a Horror flick. It's decent, but not much in it is really stand out. The end of soo weirdly abrupt, it feels almost unfinished. The slasher himself is pretty cool looking at least... Rated 3 out of 5 stars 11/06/20 Full Review Audience Member One of the worse horror movies ever. Everything the main victim did made me angry. I wanted her to die so bad because all of the stupid decisions she made. The movie was that bad I had to write a review. P.S. this is my first movie review lol Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member I'm not sure why the bad reviews. I actually really liked this movie, and I'm very picky about my horror films. The acting was decent and the storyline was well thought out. Several creepy moments. I would watch it again. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member You never really find out the theme of the movie. There's just a lot of gore. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Audience Member For about 2/3 of the movie, I was pleased. The acting was pretty good, and the two plot lines were interesting: a kidnapping and a serial killer torturing a couple of women. I was intrigued and wanted to see how the two stories intertwined. But the last half lost me. It devolved into dumbassery: chicks stand and scream their heads off rather than run, very athletic madman/monster that's everywhere at once, creepy serial killer that no one kills--they just knock him over the head, and he keeps coming after them repeatedly. The ending was terrible--they must've gotten sick of the movie as well and gave up. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 02/04/23 Full Review Audience Member this was pretty cheesy: don't people know that if they scream, then the bad guys will know where they are?! also: they're lucky that there was exactly 1 desk in that very empty room so that they could break the window and escape... sheesh. talk about scripted! also also: that was a bad ending. but really; this wasn't that bad... i've seen worse. it's just very cliched. i thought their subplot was more interesting than their main plot, though -- too bad they weren't switched.
