Critics Consensus

Robin Hood robs from rich source material, but is ultimately just another poor attempt to needlessly gussy up a classic tale with amped-up action and modern special effects.

Andrea Gronvall Chicago Reader It's silly stuff, so insubstantial that even after any vicarious thrills over the medieval one percent getting shafted, the viewer is likely to feel he or she is the one being fleeced. Audience Member Had the potential to be an enjoyable movie, but it’s a weird mix of costuming and the modern ancient blend just makes it impossible to suspend belief. Is it Batman or is is Zorro? Because it’s not Robin Hood. Pick a theme for crying out loud. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/14/25 Full Review Jay W I'm also unsure why this movie has gotten such bad ratings. Perhaps they just don't like Robin Hood, all the remakes (5 by my count) have gotten poor reviews (as an average) on RT. Its a passable action flick; the story and actors also make this quite passable, decent entertainment. Yes, it's not going to win any awards, but it's a pleasant two hours watching this. The one real downside is the period costumes are laughable, as the overall quality is WAY too high, not something that would have been commonly seen then. "Só não tem poder, quem acredita que não tem" Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/05/25 Full Review SkyRo P "Robin Hood" is one of those films that has faced significant criticism, both from critics and audiences alike, often seen as missing the mark on various levels. At least, that’s the impression you might get. In my opinion, while it may not be the best film out there, I wouldn’t label it as bad either. Taron Egerton delivers a phenomenal performance that deserves more recognition than it has received. The story follows Robin Hood on his adventurous journey, but I believe the reason many critics and viewers struggle with this adaptation is that it doesn't capture the essence of "steal from the rich and give to the poor" as deeply as the animated versions or other interpretations of this classic tale. Instead, this film showcases Robin Hood in a remarkable light, featuring incredible fight scenes against the film's villainous characters. The shift in tone and approach may have alienated some viewers, and I can understand where the criticism stems from. However, I encourage people to widen their perspective and appreciate the cinematography and the remarkable acting, even if the script feels a bit rough around the edges. I genuinely think that with some time since its release, audiences should consider giving "Robin Hood" another chance. A second or third viewing could allow them to enjoy the film for what it truly is, rather than what they initially expected. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/05/25 Full Review Audience Member I don’t know why this movie got such low views. I thought it was pretty good. The costume and wardrobe was not a true depiction of how clothing would be in the time. Period, but I must say it was stylish. Jamie Foxx did a magnificent job. I would watch this movie multiple times. The action was outstanding Rated 5 out of 5 stars 12/30/24 Full Review Enon T The movie was actually pretty good considering how it had a consistent storyline throughout and pretty decent plot. I'm actually upset that it has such a low rating here, because all things considered, it's a pretty good movie, however, the comparison to other movies that these actors have made along with other movies that are Robin Hood, It is definitely not as good. Being overly critical on this movie while comparing it to others is not what makes it a good movie or not, It's the actual quality of the movie. The CGI and overall dialogue could have used some work, however, it's still a pretty good movie. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 12/25/24 Full Review Read all reviews
