Critics Consensus

Robin Hood robs from rich source material, but is ultimately just another poor attempt to needlessly gussy up a classic tale with amped-up action and modern special effects.

Andrea Gronvall Chicago Reader It's silly stuff, so insubstantial that even after any vicarious thrills over the medieval one percent getting shafted, the viewer is likely to feel he or she is the one being fleeced. Audience Member I enjoyed this, mostly the spectacle part: D-Day like invasion of England by a French armada, with landing boats in the 12th century that opened in the front, like the classic images from the WW II Normandy beaches landing. And, after a while, I appreciated the completely a-historical story line, including Richard dead before Robin and the gang start their hijinks in England. It forced me to pause the movie and check on the actual history of Richard. Nice visuals, acting ok. It was fun and satisfying. Ok, so the ending was obviously a set up for a sequel that never happened, but then so was “Master and Commander” and others, right? Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/17/24 Full Review Chris K This is the best Robin Hood story we've ever had, but one of the worst acted, worst portrayes, worst costumes, etc. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 11/14/24 Full Review Audience Member 4/5 in terms of action and entertainment. Which is all I really expected from the film. Don’t know why so many people give it 1 star. Probably had the bar set too high. Or low-key are self righteous Jesus freaks who hate that the Catholic Church is portrayed as the antagonist, and that Jamie Foxx’s character, a Muslim, is a good guy (which I thought was a creative twist for Little John). Either way it’s fucking Robin Hood, what did you expect? Rated 4 out of 5 stars 11/08/24 Full Review Alysia A I don’t know why it got so much hate. Was it the best Robin Hood adaptation? Maybe not. But if you like Robin Hood at all, it’s still worth a watch. I thought the take was unique and interesting. Definitely had a Batman vibe. I was a little thrown off by the modern apparel, it overall I really liked several of the characters and enjoyed watching it. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 11/03/24 Full Review Paul V Wow this movie is so bad. The Outfits, the setting and the charakters are so bad. All of it are screaming that isn't the medieval. It's a total deasester in my opinion. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/27/24 Full Review Justan L Wow, this movie left me wanting. Best thing about it was the cinematopher. True it is full of action, but I should have looked up the Tomatometer before starting to watch. It is a inflated, big budget, weapons looked like they are from Fortnite, and was a sad retailing of a classic. It is unfortunate that the next generation will remember this as Robin Hood, instead of the Robin Hood Prince of Thieves of 1991. Film makers should have a responsibility to pass films to the next generation that makes them think, feel, and stand for something. This film did not make me think, feel, or stand. It only said "Burn Down The Establishment" with unrealistic pyrotechnics. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 10/15/24 Full Review Read all reviews
