Leslie Felperin Hollywood Reporter Surprises are few and far between, but what makes it a bit better than average compared to other live-action kids' films is the jaunty banter. Jun 29, 2015 Full Review Guy Lodge Variety The pic's general good humor - plus the tony adult presence of Gillian Anderson and Ben Kingsley - compensates to some degree for its cheapjack construction, but not enough to extend its appeal far beyond pre-teens in Blighty. Apr 2, 2015 Full Review Mark Kermode Observer (UK) Director Jon Wright, who directed the rambunctious monster-movie Grabbers, makes the most of his limited resources, imbuing the action with an oddly endearing sense of string-and-glue DIY youthfulness. Rated: 3/5 Mar 29, 2015 Full Review Jason Best Movie Talk Lively action on a low budget. Rated: 3/5 Apr 9, 2016 Full Review Alex Zane The Sun (UK) While Robot Overlords looks like it's been made on the budget of a Doctor Who episode and features binary acting, there is enough spirit to entertain. Rated: 3/5 Dec 29, 2015 Full Review Mark Adams Screen International Robot Overlords is an engaging action romp that moves at a nice pace but eventually gets rather let down by effects efforts that are compromised by the film's low-budget origins. Fin D The music pulls me in, the main characters bring me excitement. Overall i've loved this movie ever since it released in 2014. Will re-watch again in the future Rated 5 out of 5 stars 03/01/24 Full Review Arthur B Good visual effects, decent plot, the young leads are thoroughly believable and backed up by an excellent supporting cast, so it's hard to know why Robot Overlords isn't really a good film. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 02/07/24 Full Review Davide B Great little indie sci-fi movie. It's a bit rushed here and there but other than that, especially considering the budget, there's not much to complain about. The story is simple and fun, it doesn't take itself too seriously but it's not too silly either. It's just good, simple entertainment. Acting is great, both by the famous stars and the less known actors. VFX are great and so is the music score. It's short, so perhaps 10 or 15 more minutes more would have helped cementing and fleshing out some of the relationships, but somehow it works anyway. This film vastly exceeded my expectations. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 12/14/23 Full Review Audience Member Worst storyline effect and stupid stereotypes of British people, if i could give this a lesser review i would. Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member i screamed without the s while watching this masterpiece Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/26/23 Full Review david j The basis for the story was fairly unique in the vastly inundated genre of alien, earth apocalypse films, and it tried to get some credence with Ben Kingsley and Gillian Anderson involved ... but due to the low budget and pretty poor script ... it doesn't really work as released. If this received a hollywood style budget and a good script and storyboard team ... and perhaps a director who could keep it moving seamlessly through single scenes, with a decent understanding of flow, this story could have been a blockbuster with potentials of writing it towards a short 3 film Hunger Games type franchise. But as is ... its a pandemic binge time killer, soon to be forgotten ... shame. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review Read all reviews
