Robots delights on a visual level, but the story feels like it came off an assembly line.

Jarrod R A much delayed review of this imaginative and beautifully put together film for the young and young at heart. First off, this movie had two of my favorite performers of all time - Mel Brooks and Robin Williams. Unfortunately, Mel didn't have a ton to do, and some of Robin's schtick was a little cringy. When he was able to "let loose" a bit, it was wonderful, but there were at least two things that really rubbed the wrong way (like an unnecessary line about supermodels). Ewan McGregor is Rodney, a robot with a dream to make lives better. "See a need, fill a need" is his motto, so he leaves his mom and dad (Dianne Wiest and Stanley Tucci) for the big city of Robot City, which is chaotic and beautifully animated. This is a good moment to recognize author William Joyce, who is known for award winning children's books and has lent his characters to other movies over the years. On the Disney side of the street, his book A Day with Wilbur Robinson was transformed into Meet the Robinsons back in 2007. I'm a HUGE fan of his work, and have fond memories of reading his stuff to my students and my own kids when they were smaller. To be sure, Joyce's mark is on this movie throughout, especially when Rodney floats away on the "train" it's one of the most beautiful shots in the movie. If only the rest of it provided this kind of awe. It is frustrating that a movie with so much creative talent just didn't make it to the level of great. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 06/17/25 Full Review K G This is something of childhood memories. A movie that is creative & perfectly funny. You are depicted a universe where a society is robots! Their life is mostly similar to what the real world has. It is Pixaresque (I describe) - no wonder it is my favourite movie from Blue Sky. It is a more comfortable society than Pixar's Cars because you know how reproduction works there. Bigweld is one of those heroes that was safe to meet in person, somebody who believes in a young aspiring inventor. "Shine, no matter what you're made of". He believed that you ca invent & live with old parts & not newly built parts, like what the antagonists (Ratchet & Madame Gasket believed) who also wanted to leave the poor robots who needed old parts to survive & commit genocide of the poor onto them. Other things I like about it is its soundtrack, songs such as Barry White, "Low Rider" "Baby One More Time" by Britney Spears & "Get Up Offa That Thing" by James Brown at the end. That dance party trope at them end made sense since Rodney Copperbottom's father I even love the cast - to have people like Ewan McGregor, Amanda Bynes & Robin Williams to be there - characters to make you smile.
