Critics Consensus

Like its title, Rock Star is rather generic, being not so much about the heavy metal scene than about rock cliches and formula.

Nell Minow Common Sense Media Not great, but moments of guilty pleasure. Carla V As both a film and music enthusiast, I found it to be an engaging watch. The movie effectively captures the universal dream of musicians aspiring to rock stardom, while offering meaningful insights into the challenges and realities that accompany that pursuit. Aniston’s and Wahlberg’s performances were particularly convincing, adding authenticity to the story. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/01/25 Full Review Christine B Just a fun movie if you lived through the era of Hair Bands. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 07/22/25 Full Review Daniel F Very entertaining from start to finish, and the story evolves well as the movie goes without turning into a "sleeper". If you don't like rock/metal you may not like the movie as it played metal songs all the time. But that's your loss and not the movie's fault. 🤘 Lots of respect for bringing real musicians to play the characters so we don't have lots of pretending actors that makes the shows look fake (I'm looking at you, "that thing you do" cast). Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/23/25 Full Review C. E Rockstar (2001) is a beauty of a movie about the rock/metal band scene and the fans that grew up idolizing them. Not to be taken too seriously though. This was one of my & best friend's movie to watch! (RIP Adam Humble) Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/14/24 Full Review Read all reviews
