Paul Kanieski KSQD Community Radio All of the songs are surprisingly catchy, especially the one sung by Ralph’s sexy mom, performed by dancer and choreographer extraordinaire Toni Basil who’s clearly having a blast and absolutely sizzles in every scene she’s in. SkyRo P "Rockula" is a delightful blend of comedy and horror that hit theaters in the 1980s. The film follows a young vampire navigating his life in a vampire family, all while grappling with the heartache of a lost love. Each day seems to replay the same cycle, as he continually loses the girl of his dreams, desperately seeking a way to break the pattern and avoid further emotional pain. While the premise is charming, it can feel a bit odd to see a vampire casually flaunting his fangs. Nevertheless, the film embraces its cheesy and corny nature, ultimately providing a fun viewing experience. As a nostalgic piece from the past, it may not be flawless—far from it—but it captures a whimsical spirit that makes it enjoyable. If you’re in the mood for a lighthearted romp filled with classic 80s humor, "Rockula" is worth a watch. It may not be an Oscar contender, but its silly charm offers plenty of laughs and entertainment for a laid-back evening. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 05/21/25 Full Review alan g Ok for the 90s but dated today. Toni Basil is very good. Cheesy but fun. Not to be taken seriously. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/15/25 Full Review Melissa M It's one of the few movies where the soundtrack is just as good as the movie. '80s icon Toni Basil stars in Rockula. So does Thomas Dolby electronical musical wizard. Susan Tyrell who was in many cult movies. And Bo Diddley musical legend also star in this film. In the film Ralph a extremely confused vampire who literally reflects on whether or not once again he should try to save a woman named Mona. Who keeps getting reincarnated. But with every reincarnation she gets offed by pirates. Every time he tries to save her unfortunately he fails. In the film this time Mona comes back as a famous rock star. After arguing with himself. He decides that he's going to do whatever it takes to save her. Even if it means trying to fly & falling flat on his face. The movie is silly at times. And kind of campy. It's vampire movie doesn't bite. The only thing is & it's so overplayed & especially in horror flicks. Is the sound of a screeching cat. There's a scene where Ralph is being tossed by Mona's security into a pile of garbage. When Ralph Lands he falls onto a screeching cat. It's about as annoying as canned laughter. And completely unnecessary. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/21/25 Full Review Audience Member "My nine iron is an extension of my penis." A real stinker, even amongst the glut of mediocre vampire movies of the era ("Vamp", "Vampire's Kiss", "Once Bitten", "My Best Friend is a Vampire". "Innocent Blood", "Near Dark", "The Lost Boys", "Transylvania 6-5000", etc). A vampire born in the time of Napoleon, though living in the modern era, must stop his recurring trauma of watching his love die every 22 years, so he decides to try to woo her by forming a band. His whore of a mother tries convincing them to get hitched. This is a horror/musical and unfortunately the music is terribly horrible. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member I love this movie. I love to watch it around Halloween even though it is not all that scary. Great music and dancing, almost a musical. A tiny bit like Rocky Horror. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member This is single handedly the greatest movie I have ever seen. Romantic tropes? Check. An amazing attractive main character? Check. A love story better than the greatest love story you can think of while reading this? You got it! Real talk I freaking love this movie. Its cheesy and campy and I love it. If you are looking for a good vampire romance, watch this movie. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Read all reviews
