What to Know

Critics Consensus

It's noticeably subject to the law of diminishing returns, but Rocky III still has enough brawny spectacle to stand in the ring with the franchise's better entries.

Derek Malcolm Guardian It would be true to say that Stallone has improved as a director, delivering a short, almost staccato movie which zips through the whole fable fast enough to prevent familiarity breeding contempt. Nov 11, 2021 Full Review David Robinson The Times (UK) Stallone is distinctly at his best when the film takes off into almost abstract montages of ;music or images, or in the nifty choreography of the fights. Sep 24, 2020 Full Review Nigel Andrews Financial Times Rocky was a right hook that hit satisfying home: Rocky II was a good follow-up left: Rocky III is a redundant flurry of fisticuffs long after the match has been won and the referee has raised the victor's arm. Sep 24, 2020 Full Review Grant Watson Fiction Machine All up I think this is probably the best of the Rocky films in visual terms, but its story is severely lacking and its depth is non-existent. Rated: 7/10 Feb 14, 2024 Full Review Jana Monji Age of the Geek The Survivor song, "Eye of the Tiger," might be the best thing about this film which has Rocky going against Mr. T as Rocky's adversary. Rated: 2/5 Mar 8, 2023 Full Review Stephen Silver Tilt Magazine Very much a film of the ’80s. Not only did it co-star 1980s icons like Mr. T and Hulk Hogan, but it made Rocky a bit more musclebound than he’d been earlier, in line with the G.I. Joe aesthetics of the time. MR. G MR.T VS. STALLONE (SPOILER WARNING) Rocky 3 like the second film is a fun movie but way way much funnier the movie is balls to the wall action and doesn’t stop. The plot follows Rocky become a world champion boxer to then becoming a celebrity star everywhere. After 10 title defense Rocky decides to do an exhibition charity bout against a wrestler known as “Thunderlips (Hulk Hogan) after the charity bout Rocky gets honoured with a statue in Philadelphia honor. Rocky was planning to announce his retirement there but gets interrupt by the dangerous “Clubber Lang” (Mr.T) after trying to seduce his wife Rocky accepts the fight but his trainer Micky is against it but still trains Rocky for the fight who is not taking serious by doing a parade workout. The time fight night comes around a brawl breaks out between the teams and Mickey is pushed and is hurt. Rocky goes out there and gets Knockout inside 2 rounds. When Rocky gets back to his locker room Rocky and Mickey have their last moments before Mickey dies. Rocky is annoyed thinking he’s nothing but a failure but Apollo Creed his formal rival comes to Rocky to train and get him to fast and skilled. Rocky is not trying saying to Adrian “he’s afraid” but Adrian comforts him and Rocky goes beast mode. Fight night comes around and Rocky uses his speed and skill and beats Lang by knockout in 3 Rounds and wins back his heavyweight title. If you want movie where there’s not any bad moments and is pure fun and hulk hogan in it this is for you but unlike the 1 and 2 one this one doesn’t really takes itself serious and more just action boxing movie with the only serious moment being the part where mick dies. Overall a fun movie to watch if you’re in the mood for some action 7/10. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 08/08/25 Full Review Ava S Rocky III gets down to brass tacks, focusing on the boxing world and Balboa's inner turmoil, matched with electrifying fights that exemplify Creed as both a mentor and an unlikely friend.
