Ron Miller San Jose Mercury News There's no question, however, about who owns this show: Brandy is magnificently sweet and ethereal, proving she can step away from her contempo hustle and the "Moesha" image, giving a bravura performance as a wistful girl living off dreams. Feb 27, 2020 Full Review Ray Richmond Variety As Cinderella, the surprisingly self-assured Brandy is an island of subtlety in a sea of broad. A magical sort of charisma enfolds her, and her voice is more than up to the task. matthias s I just rewatched *Cinderella* (1997), and wow, this is such a charming fairytale! The diverse cast is way ahead of its time—seriously, Brandy Norwood absolutely carries the film with her perfect performance. Houston and Goldberg? Iconic casting. The chemistry between Cinderella and the Prince is off the charts, and it makes the love story feel so magical. The set designs are beautiful, and the costumes? Next level, especially Cinderella’s iconic look—absolute perfection. I vaguely remembered bits and pieces from watching it as a kid, but it still holds up. The comedy sprinkled throughout is so fun, and the songs are wonderfully sung, though none of them stuck with me after. That said, the film just feels special, like a fairytale should. Honestly, this could be the best live-action Cinderella adaptation. It’s fun, gorgeous, and so heartwarming. Definitely glad I revisited it! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/11/25 Full Review Me A This was my absolute favorite rendition of cinderella! I loved it as a young teen when it first came out.. it actually made me pay attention to the storyline lol. As an extra extra adult, I have to go back every few months and we watch it.. just so refreshing and made me feel like I could be a desirable princess when I was a young girl... Think it's a very important rendition :-) Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/02/24 Full Review SkyRo P The 1997 adaptation of "Cinderella" is a remarkable and unique take on the beloved fairy tale that surprised and delighted viewers. Despite the Cinderella franchise being perceived as overdone, this version managed to stand out with its captivating storyline and impressive performances. Featuring Brandy Norwood and Whitney Houston in the lead roles of Cinderella and the fairy godmother, respectively, this interpretation brought a refreshing twist to the classic tale. The stellar cast, including standout performances by Norwood, Houston, and Bernadette Peters, added depth and charm to the film, making it a memorable and enjoyable watch. The film's diverse representation, with Cinderella portrayed as African-American, offered a fresh perspective on the traditional story. This change did not detract from the film's appeal but instead added to its allure, showcasing the beauty and universality of the Cinderella narrative in a new light. Overall, the 1997 version of "Cinderella" is a captivating and delightful interpretation that successfully reimagines the classic fairy tale. With its talented cast, engaging storyline, and unique twists, this adaptation remains a standout favorite that resonates with audiences for its creativity and charm. The one shorter stepsister is legiterally the female version of Kenan Thompson and that elevates this experience so much.
