Stacey O @RT01502866 5d What others experienced as delight in the slow build, I found repetitive and way too long. It took over an hour to have any real tension and the filmmaker’s fascination with a female star dragged out the story so that we can see her sit down, get up look at the camera look away from the camera and basically not add anything to the plot. Beautifully filmed and acted but a real disappointment. See more Stephen C @bob25009 Jun 26 Success in 1 hour and 54 minutes. The premise — a young woman reconstructing her parents’ past through fragmented family memories marked by drugs and AIDS — feels promising. Yet despite Simón’s recognizable style—slow, intimate and observational—the story never truly engages me. The film looks authentic but remains emotionally distant. My connection weakens further with the protagonist, played by Llúcia Garcia. While I can imagine her future in Spanish cinema, her character gradually becomes irritating and difficult to connect with. A controversial symbolic relationship within the family also unsettles me, even if I understand its metaphorical intention. Ultimately, the film never makes me care about what happens. Despite moments of contemplative beauty, it feels like the weakest entry in Simón’s trilogy and one of the most frustrating viewing experiences I’ve had in recent years. See more MB C @MB.Cinema Jan 20 Romería is a restrained drama about identity, memory, and the cost of family silence.....What begins as a bureaucratic trip for legal recognition becomes a quiet confrontation with erased histories and inherited shame....The script balances present-day encounters with fragments of the past, using diaries and home-video footage to deepen emotional resonance.....Rather than scandalizing addiction or illness, the film treats them as unhealed wounds shaped by denial.....Its reflective pace and touches of magical realism may slow momentum for some viewers.....Still, Romería is a thoughtful, intimate film that suggests belonging is earned through truth, not paperwork..... See more Andrea B @RT76565219 Oct 13 It's a film all about getting a scholarship. You don't know who the people are, there's no good soundtrack, and you don't know if what's happening is real or just in the girl's head. See more Nicolas J @RT04474315 Sep 19 After Summer 1993, this feels like Simon is standing on common ground. Beautifully shot, a nice film , but it feels toothless, just... nice. It won’t hurt you, but you won’t remember it. See more Read all reviews
