Ela Bittencourt House Next Door Wojciech Smarzowski's film is at times so brutal that its more tender touches can startle. Apr 26, 2013 Full Review Giuseppe Sedia Kino Mania From a moral point of view Rose is a Western crammed with violence but filmed without complacency. Smarzowski ironically referred to himself as the “third Cohen brother” in a recent interview, and there may be a kernel of truth in this. Rated: 4/5 Nov 20, 2023 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member Powerful, both in its depiction of violence and its more tender moments. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member Not quite correct movie info: Róża is a widow after Wehrmacht sodier. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member depressing as hell but stunning! Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Audience Member A dark and gritty story of a Masurian woman who was left defenseless and prone to multiple rapes and attacks after her German husband-soldier was killed in the WWII. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/27/23 Full Review Audience Member A harrowing tale of survival centers on Rose, a Masurian woman, whose husband, a German soldier, was killed in the war, leaving her alone on their farm. A single woman had no defense against Russian soldiers who raped as a form of revenge, nor against plundering Poles who found themselves in desperate straits. The law of the jungle had replaced the rule of law. Help arrives for Rose in the form of Tadeusz, a former officer in the Polish Home Army who survived the Warsaw uprising and is attempting to hide his identity.
