Richard Whittaker Austin Chronicle At first glimpse, neo-slasher Ruin Me seems to be running face-first into the razorblade traps of postmodern spoof. Yet that glib and well-worn trope is just a mask to hide a more incisive kind of fright. Oct 8, 2018 Full Review Brent McKnight Seattle Times Around the midway point, "Ruin Me" takes interesting turns with both plot and protagonist, ratchets up the mystery, and treks into unanticipated territory. Rated: 3.5/4 Jun 6, 2018 Full Review Dax Ebaben Bloody Disgusting The problem isn't that Ruin Me is bad, it's that it's not altogether memorable. Rated: 2.5/5 Aug 26, 2021 Full Review Alix Turner Ready Steady Cut In Ruin Me, six people attend a 36-hour Slasher Sleepout, and - wouldn't you know it - start getting picked off one by one. Is it just a game or not? Rated: 3.5/5 Feb 2, 2021 Full Review Emilie Black Cinema Crazed ... it's a lot of twists that lead nowhere really and become frustrating as they accumulate with no real results or no real impact on the story and its ending. The lead is interesting enough and gives a good performance showing the strength to survive... Rated: 3/5 Apr 14, 2020 Full Review Amie Simon Three Imaginary Girls Although it's not perfect, Ruin Me succeeds in pulling off a few surprises in a genre that's difficult to do that in. Melissa L Pretty well-acted slasher movie. Twisty, as well. Recommend. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 05/11/24 Full Review Andrea B Wow ! You'll be on the edge of your seat the whole movie definitely an easy 2023 , slasher thriller . Loved it Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/12/23 Full Review prawnda s the first hour of ruin me has some decent moments and more than a few deliberately dumb characters for laughs. there's some light saw/escape room type stuff that doesn't always make sense, and a healthy serving of camp. i liked this part, and it's more than half of the movie. however, similar to the type of business the movie is based on, most of the purportedly frightening aspects of the film rely on crude taboos and boundary crossing that aren't quite "horror" so much as poorly written torture scenes, and it wasn't enjoyable to watch the protagonist actually being gaslit to the point of mental breakdown. there's a reason that those "hardcore" haunted house places get stuck with lawsuits all the time, and why the waivers often are not considered legally binding. the ending makes up for this with a little better/juicier writing than i expected compared to the rest of the script, but themes of stigmatizing addiction and mental illness aren't my taste. overall, it's worth a watch, but it shouldn't be at the top of anyone's list. shudder has much better to offer. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 04/30/23 Full Review Hugo S Six strangers are dropped in the middle of the woods as part of an escape-room meant to be extreme. The horror-themed experience becomes the worst nightmare of all participants as they are chased and slaughtered one by one. "Ruin Me" is a dull slasher movie only enjoyed by the hardcore fans of the genre. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 03/28/23 Full Review jonathan d Interesting movie. It felt like the movie had a pretty good pace and direction and wasn't often dry but had a few slow parts. Very good mix of mystery and curiosity throughout. Great psychological thriller and definitely had a great ending although some of the acting throughout the film was a little distracting but nothing too bad or out of place. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Chloe M it was better than I thought it'd be, granted I was expecting it to be pretty bad so that doesn't say a lot. the end keeps you confused till the last minute which i liked, I tend to enjoy movies that make you feel like "what's happening" as long as it makes sense. there were definitely a few parts I still don't really understand, but it wasn't bad. seen better slasher flicks, definitely seen less enjoyable ones as well tho. I say try it out if you're low on horror movies to watch but I wouldn't put it high on a list. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
