Naturally, O'Rourke is the star at the center of this movie, and he comes across well enough. Maybe a little too well: Even a handful of less flattering moments can't stop Running with Beto from feeling, at times, like a feature-length campaign promo. Go to Full Review

Oddly,... "Running With Beto" is most compelling when O'Rourke isn't in it. Go to Full Review

3/5
The most interesting voice is that of O'Rourke's 11-year-old son, Ulysses. Astute and intelligent, his point of view is the freshest and one of the most honest and it's from his perspective that the audience understands the true sacrifice of the race. Go to Full Review

In fact, it's in the crafting of the film's antagonist, Ted Cruz, that artistic intent can be felt. Go to Full Review
Kyle Smith National Review 05/30/2019
The director of the film is otherwise so unable to generate any heat from his room-temperature candidate that he hands over scenes to fans and volunteers, some of whom are much more colorful. Go to Full Review

His enthusiasm is infectious, even as his family gets wary of his relentless campaigning. Go to Full Review

08/12/2019 Whether you like Beto or not, this documentary still offers a fascinating look into grassroots movements and the endless amount of public appearances up-and-coming politicians make while sacrificing personal relationships. See more 06/24/2019 Excellent documentary. So inspirational. See more 05/31/2019 Very compelling, at times very moving, and always very entertaining! See more 05/30/2019 Totally amazing story of a hard working young man trying to serve out country. See more 05/30/2019 I saw this movie on HBO live. It's a fascinating look into a difficult political campaign, with the ups and downs of real life. Beto O'Rourke and his family go through all the stress of traveling to meet people throughout Texas for over a year. The filmmakers were smart to include volunteer stories and not just the politicians. Shannon was one of my favorites and I felt for her when the campaign came up short at the end. I did not follow this political campaign at the time but I feel like I did having watched this documentary. I have to say I normally love HBO documentaries and this one is one of the best recent ones. Reminds me of the Macron film on Netflix. See more 05/29/2019 Go Cruz!!! Why’d did the loser get a movie. Mexicans for Cruz!!! Not this fake Mexican. See more Read all reviews
