Deborah Young Variety Much of the pic's strength is in leaning on the frail shoulders of newcomer Dorotheea Petre, who is insightful and refreshingly contemporary as a boy-girl-woman searching for her identity. Aug 25, 2006 Full Review Bill Stamets Chicago Sun-Times Zenide showcases Petre in a role of few words and much feeling. It's an auspicious debut in a sensitive drama, despite its less than original contours. Rated: 2.5/4 Aug 25, 2006 Full Review Boyd van Hoeij european-films.net The first approach to the main character is a piece of virtuoso filmmaking (...) but the film does not maintain this wedding of thematic coherence and enigmatic visual style, its narrative soon revealing itself to be predictable and bland. Aug 25, 2006 Full Review Jules Brenner Cinema Signals As I already said, I couldn't take my eyes off of her. And, I couldn't care about all the forces affecting her destiny more. Audience Member An interesting debut by a new talent to watch. It's set at the end of the world in the Danube Delta and the cinematography is lovely. The performances and direction are first rate, too. It's a raw, personal film about finding yourself and your place in the world. A beautiful first film. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/15/23 Full Review Audience Member Umm pouco triste, mas muito bom filme! Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Audience Member Not as rich and compelling as some of the other outputs from Romania in recent years, but heartbreaking, balanced, and honest. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/25/23 Full Review Audience Member The plot transitions were a bit choppy, and there were too many unlikeable male characters. An excellent snapshot of the lives of desperate people in a small village, though Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/05/23 Full Review Audience Member I disagree with the Flixster synopsis. She did not pay the price for her femininity just because she was dressed as a young woman. There were all sorts of events leading up to the ending. You understand why she did the things she did, are saddened by her circumstance, and proud of her will. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member I was hoping for something raw and haunting like Argentina's XXY. Instead, this sexual identity crisis entry from Romania was kind of boring. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 01/19/23 Full Review Read all reviews
