Richard Brody The New Yorker The Italian director Nanni Moretti crafts this fiercely earnest documentary with a frank simplicity that feels remarkably original. Sep 23, 2019 Full Review Deborah Young The Hollywood Reporter A minor addition to the work of a cult filmmaker. Dec 14, 2018 Full Review A.S. Hamrah The Baffler Guzmán makes an appearance before Moretti's camera, but most of the screen time is dedicated to the refugees who escaped to Italy-the film is somehow the opposite of Desert One... Jan 16, 2021 Full Review Anita Katz San Francisco Examiner In Moretti's deft hands, this seemingly small film delivers in multiple arenas: as a historical document, a condemnation of fascism, a journey of hope, and a universal call for compassion. Rated: 3/4 May 15, 2020 Full Review Carmen Paddock One Room With A View With the worldwide rise of the right wing in the 21st century, Santiago, Italia remains a timely reminder of oppression's human toll and the little resistances and allegiances that keep people alive. Rated: 4/5 Mar 2, 2020 Full Review Pablo O. Scholz Clarín Santiago, Italy has a short running time, but everything that will last in its spectators minds cannot be measured by time. Audience Member This documentary chronicles the months following the 1973 coup d'état in Chile and the role played by the Italian embassy in welcoming political and non-political refugees. The Italian director Nanni Moretti tries to tell this story through interviews with the protagonists and archive images. A beautiful and interesting documentary on this beautiful story of hospitality. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 01/24/23 Full Review Read all reviews
