      What to Know

      Critics Consensus

It isn't terribly devilish or particularly pulse-quickening, but Satanic Panic remains an entertaining midnight movie that forgiving genre enthusiasts will enjoy.

Jessica F This is a Horror comedy with lots of shock value. Throughout this film there is lots of blood and gore, most of it is based on shock value. The plot of a cult losing their sacrifice and all turning on each other is comical and fun. The film isn't serious at all, making it an entertaining and fun film to watch with friends. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/12/24 Full Review Craig B Satanic Panic is completely bonkers but a lot of fun, with plenty of lashings of violence and gore. The film features a good cast well lead by Hayley Griffith, with great support from Ruby Modine (daughter of Matthew), Hannah Stocking and Arden Myrin. Rolls along quite nicely, and at a mere 89 minutes you get the sense the makers got the timing about right. Highly recommended if you are in the mood for horror silliness and you are short on viewing time. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/24 Full Review Ben D I had put this on my list a couple of years ago for the blurb and kept it there for Jerry O'Connell. Unfortunately, it was a waste of time and of Jerry. The rich worship the Devil (more precisely, a demon named Baphomet, although he will not be the only demon present in this movie), which allows them to maintain their control over the elite strata of society. The plot follows Sam (Hayley Griffith), a pizza delivery girl who couldn't've asked for a worse first day on the job. After being stiffed of a tip at an opulent mansion in a wealthy neighborhood in Brooklyn (why they set the movie in Brooklyn but filmed in Dallas is beyond me), Sam barges her way into the dwelling and is set upon a Satanic cult the very night they are planning to sacrifice a virgin to Baphomet. From here, it's a constant chase throughout the neighborhood, from mansion to mansion, with everyone they encounter (Sam joins a girl named Judi (Ruby Modine) who was supposed to be the original sacrificial virgin, but found a random young man to end those plans) somehow connected to the bloodthirsty coven. "Get your big tits in gear, they know we're here," was pretty good, but besides that, I can't remember if there was another laugh-out-loud moment. It's all over the place with a message that I guess was still punchy in 2019, but the same concept has been around since at least 1967 (Rosemary's Baby). There are a few seconds of a really cool-looking demon and lots of low-budget gore — Ardin Myrin as "Gypsy" had a nice death scene while she "drowned" without being submerged in water. Jerry O'Connell is in one scene (while parts of him are in others..). If anything can thrive in a low budget, it's horror, but this isn't one of them. I can't see a reason for anyone to watch this movie. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 05/13/23 Full Review steve d Really odd and completely different. Gory good fun, and quite funny. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 03/30/23 Full Review slap m It was OK, probably could have had a little bit more racism and female nudity, but it was fine, I guess. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Boring, casually racist in parts. Film clearly has disdain for victims of sexual violence. Ridicules them and fetishizes the act itself. Sara Michelle Fetters MovieFreak.com [These] three women are a trio of energetic magnetism who leap off the screen, Stardust utilizing them to chant an incantation of blood, guts, friendship and feminism I openly adored. Rated: 3/4 Sep 12, 2019 Full Review Adam Graham Detroit News It won't convert any non-believers, but this horror comedy is self-aware enough to deliver the right mixture of laughs, gross-outs and demon-tinged ridiculousness to please its intended audience of gorehounds and genre geeks. Rated: B- Sep 6, 2019 Full Review Justin Lowe Hollywood Reporter The feature lacks the deft touch required to make disembowelments and virgin sacrifices actually seem amusing, although gore-hounds will certainly get their fill. Sep 6, 2019 Full Review Emilie Black Cinema Crazed A few years down the line, Chelsea Stardust’s feature directorial debut is still a lot of fun and cult mayhem with solid performances and some good blood. Rated: 4/5 Aug 12, 2022 Full Review Dan Stubbs NME (New Musical Express) Satanic Panic is one of the rare films that manages to find the right balance, in that it's a zippily scripted movie with some great dialogue... and buckets and buckets of bloody good fun.
