Stephen Saito Moveable Fest Franco's film also functions as a drama about the tension that exists when creativity is scheduled for a deadline; the laughs that are in "Saturday Night" are mostly incidental from the sketches being prepared. Nov 15, 2018 Full Review Read all reviews

Audience Member The subject matter is incredibly insightful and fascinating, but the actual film quality never rises beyond a shoddy amateur film. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/03/23 Full Review Audience Member a really entertaining look at the process of putting SNL together. A lot of the time the process is funnier than the finished product. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/18/23 Full Review Audience Member I think this would've been way more interesting with FUNNIER comedians,I mean,I like some of the guys in this but, they made it seem totally irrelevant...plus,James Franco directing this.big NO. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/29/23 Full Review Audience Member Franko's film missed the opportunity to delve into the personalities that make SNL great. Without any real character studies, the movie becomes a dry rendition of the mechanics of putting in a live show. SNL is creative, cutting-edge and hysterical; By contrast, Saturday Night, the movie, is dry, conventional and humorless. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/17/23 Full Review Audience Member A very interesting behind the scenes/day in the life look at a pillar in the sketch comedy community. James Franco really puts you into the shoes of the writers, producers, and performers from Saturday Night Live. For someone who has always dreamed of being a part of the legendary show, it was such a fascinating documentary. Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review Audience Member James Franco follows the making of an SNL episode in 2008. He and his crew observe when John Malkovich hosted for the third time. This doc covers the whole week from writing to rehearsing to the live taping. Quite frankly Franco is self-serving in joking around with Bill Hader and doesn't delve very deep into what truly makes the show. It feels like a student film. It takes you behind the scenes, but does not look to the history of Saturday Night Live. Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Read all reviews
