Audience Member Savage Harvest is a well shot and intense Horror film that can impress and satisfy gorehounds from start to finish, it is one of the most worth watching demon Horror films ever made. In Savage Harvest, a group of teens spend the summer at a camp somewhere in Dittmer owned by Gary who is the uncle of someone from the group. Gary tells them an old tale about a story of an old Indian burial ground(which unbeknownst to them is the site they are camping in) and he tells them the story of ancient rocks that each has a different demon. Soon as night falls, the group is attacked by a possessed Gary and the ones who touched the rock slowly turns into another one of the demons. To survive they must kill all of the demons and destroy the heart of the most powerful demon that has been awaken for so many years in order to escape. The first time I watched this film, I really enjoyed it; Savage Harvest is a Horror film that pays tribute to Sam Raimi's Evil Dead and anyone who is looking for a movie that is gory and shocking then this film is for you. When I said that this movie pays tribute to The Evil Dead, I am honest about that. Because this film does pay tribute or homage to that film, the major difference with both movies is that while Evil Dead's budget is low, Savage Harvest's budget is lower than Evil Dead's own budget. Nevertheless Savage Harvest is well known for its high impact on graphic violence and extreme gore. When I say that this movie is gory, it is super gory. Savage Harvest feels like one of the Horror films that would get an X rating or even an NC-17 instead if it gets released in theaters. The whole movie is full of an extreme amount of hardcore gore effects and the gore is nasty and disgusting as there are loads of scenes that are high on blood and intense plus extreme graphic violence(A teen getting eaten alive upside down, the brutal chainsaw head smashing scene, a nasty shovel to the chest, the head impaling opening sequence and the finale with the final demon melting like an ice cream) and they can seriously make you feel sick that you need to barf into the toilet after watching it. But the main highpoint for me is the overall execution and look of the film, what Eric Stanze can do is that he makes a Horror film on a shoe string budget and turns it into a dark art house masterpiece. He knew how to make a good Horror film on a smaller scale and its grainy quality gave the film an eerie and chilling feeling which really sets up the mood of the film, plus all of the demons in the film are super scary, gross and creepy as well thanks to the outstanding make up and how they move and attack really sends chills down in my spine. Although the movie has its own flaws(acting is off the hook sometimes and the characters are like cardboard cut outs plus Stanze's excessive use of rock songs during the demons attacking the others does not match the tone of the film) it is nevertheless a very entertaining Horror film that has all the goodies gore hounds are thirsty for. Director and Writer Eric Stanze is one of the most talented filmmakers ever, he did a great job with handling the movie on a lower budget. Eric knows how to make a well crafted story while combining lots and lots of blood and gore in all the right places, he really is the king of underground Horror films and is very impressive with handling a movie on a small budget. I love Savage Harvest, this film is a special treat for fans of Demon movies or Extreme Hardcore Horror fans. If you love the Evil Dead, then you will enjoy Savage Harvest. This movie gets a 9/10. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 01/12/23 Full Review Audience Member A group of young adults comes across a native American legend involving some rocks that contains demons. The legend turns out to be true and soon enough members of the group become possessed by the demons. "Savage Harvest" is a b-horror in every sense of the word. It's really low-budget complete with bad acting and some cheap gore effects. You could easily trash the movie for that alone. However, if you are a horrorbuff, it is entertaining enough to sit through it's short runtime (71 minutes) and the make-up effects are not that bad at all. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member This is another movie from Eric Stanze and his Sub Rosa production company. I have to hand it to the guy; he keeps throwing them out there, that’s for sure. There is no nudity in this movie and I only mention it because that is REALLY rare for a Stanze movie. The plot is pretty simple, but for a 70 minute movie that’s all you should expect from a plot. The story puts a group of young people going to an out of the way place (in this film it’s a closed summer camp) where they one by one succumb to demon possession. Sound familiar? A little too Evil Dead for you? The make up and gore effects are pretty average and one of the demon possessed kids has a habit of eating corpses giving the film a slight zombie film vibe too. The acting is ridiculous and not even bad enough to be funny, it’s just bad. The soundtrack is nothing more than some noise in the background. If I were you, I wouldn’t waist a dime on this short, boring, backyard production. Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/14/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
