Arpad O This is like if Ealing Studios made a samurai movie. On the wrong side of the tracks, a young orphan who owns nothing but a dirty pot ends up under the care of the proprietress of a kind of social club and the bouncer, the one-armed swordsman Sazan. The twist is: the pot secretly has a treasure map (to the titular million ryo) hidden in it, and the original owners have sent armed men to find it. this movie vibes like ozu's lighter side, somber but sweet and slightly cheeky. more than slightly, like i said: Ealing. Stands fine on its own despite being not the first Sazan movie. Vaguely Cowboy Bebop. The good stuff. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 09/18/25 Full Review Read all reviews
