Chris M Can't see that going over for on add for that prescription med. "Side effects are rare which may include insanity and a thoughts of world domination." The original was a dark intense sci-fi drama. But the sequels went to sillier places. They had a silly premise and they knew it. Where other movies have a goofy premise but still play it dead serious. A serious tone for a goofy premise makes the movie no fun. But they went full tongue in cheek with the tone and it made it a hella fun to watch. Is it perfect? Absolutely not. It has mild character issues and NO SPOILERS but the sequel bait leaves it open for a sequel that was never meant to be. If you like the super dark tone of the first movie than neither sequel is for you. Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 10/13/22 Full Review Audience Member Directed by Christian Duguay and written by B.J. Nelson — the same team that did Scanners 2, as well as some of the same actors — this film is not related at all to that movie. It's also way better than that movie. Helena Monet (Liliana Komorowska, Screamers) is a scanner who constantly deals with the horrifying side effects of those powers until her adoptive father's experimental Eph-3 drug drowns out the voices, but also causes her to lose all of her morals. She kills that father figure, takes over his drug company and also starts to take over all of the world's entertainment. Meanwhile, her adopted brother and fellow scanner Alex has been raised in a monastery where he'd have no outside voices bothering him, but now he must come back to a world he doesn't know to stop his sister. So yeah — amazingly, the third Scanners film is not all that bad. Even more incredibly, Scanner Cop blows this away. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 02/06/23 Full Review cees t Gets a little silly near the end. 6.2/10 Rated 3 out of 5 stars 03/31/23 Full Review Audience Member Seriously the ideas of scanners you should be able to be easily come up with a decent storyline than this mess. I must be honest though some of this is funny as hell but not in a good way. Rated 1.5 out of 5 stars 01/30/23 Full Review Audience Member Scanners III: The Takeover (AKA Scanner Force) pretty much ignores the events of the previous films (as did the previous sequel), takes elements from each of them and tries to go in its own direction. The film is driven by the performance of Liliana Komorowska, who is at times hilariously over-the-top with her delivery of the dialogue, and tells the story of a scanner woman who becomes obsessed with taking over the world with her power and her scanner brother who must stop her. The head explosions, which are a staple of this series, are pretty good, and the plot is decent enough, I guess. The problem though is, do we really need Scanners sequels? The answer is, of course, no, but this one isn't too bad. It can get a little boring at times, particularly in the middle of the movie, but overall, it was watchable on some level. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 01/26/23 Full Review Audience Member Terrible overacting by the whole cast ruins this one Rated 1 out of 5 stars 01/27/23 Full Review Read all reviews Post a rating
