Critics Consensus

Smart, well-acted, and suitably chilling, Scare Me uses its familiar horror setting as the backdrop for a fresh deconstruction of standard genre ingredients.

Tasha Robinson Polygon it's easy to get swept up in the ride, if not the scares... Even if viewers never entirely lose themselves into these stories, they can at least feel like they're fully in on the joke. Oct 8, 2020 Full Review Kate Erbland indieWire "Scare Me" packs ambitious ideas inside a small-scale concept. Rated: B- Oct 5, 2020 Full Review Kristy Puchko Pajiba Simply put, Scare Me is superb. Oct 3, 2020 Full Review Bill Bria Vague Visages Scare Me is an exceptionally funny movie, but it’s also (crucially) not solely a comedy. Jun 7, 2023 Full Review Jessica Scott Film Cred Though it runs out of steam at times, Scare Me is a smart meta-commentary on horror films that tackles serious issues with wry humor. Dec 23, 2022 Full Review Nicolás Delgadillo Discussing Film Might have been better served as a series of shorts rather than an overlong and disjointed movie. Kyle M Basically a rom-com with actual sharp performances enacting horrific tropes with an efficient setting that atmospherically turned out flat unless you enjoy the talentedly cheesy hybrid and allow this endeavor to open up to heightened thrillers possibility. The typically fatal twist builds up psychologically affective onto the bonding pair, equipped with layered agendas and sensibilities, towards the final humorous chagrined knot. (B-) Rated 3 out of 5 stars 10/20/24 Full Review Diana S It's not technically scary or horror, but it is for horror enthusiasts if you're into the "how-the-sausage-is-made" approach, which a lot of horror enthusiasts are. I laughed quite a bit, and I thought the serious/humor balance was good. Also some very clever twists and strong dialogue. Rated 3 out of 5 stars 07/16/24 Full Review Audience Member Awful waste of time. Just awful Rated 0.5 out of 5 stars 12/19/23 Full Review London H I don't know if the movie is worth watching for people who are wondering if it's worth it. The endings twist could've been good if written write or done differently, but the ending is just not worth it and leaves the watcher wanting more. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 09/30/23 Full Review Gale B this was refreshing as hell Rated 5 out of 5 stars 08/12/23 Full Review Ric O An original premise that could've done so much more... I struggled to make it to the third act. Rated 2 out of 5 stars 04/20/23 Full Review Read all reviews
