Defying the very notion of good taste, Scary Movie out-parodies the pop culture parodies with a no-holds barred assault on the most popular images and talked-about moments from recent films, television and commercials. The film boldly fires barbs at the classic scenes from Scream, The Sixth Sense, The Matrix, I Know What You Did Last Summer and The Blair Witch Project, then goes on to mock a whole myriad of teen movie clichés, no matter the genre.

Paul Tatara CNN.com These gags are hardly the height of inspiration, but it could be that people laugh at them because they're not as pathetic as a character having a penis jabbed through his head like an ice pick. Oct 19, 2018 Full Review Peter Bradshaw Guardian The Wayans brothers just want to make us laugh... And for the first 20 minutes, they do. After that the gag-rate plummets, and it's a long haul to the credits. Oct 19, 2018 Full Review Lisa Schwarzbaum Entertainment Weekly Rated: B Sep 7, 2011 Full Review Wayne Broadway Black Girl Nerds To say 'Scary Movie' isn’t hilarious in parts would be a lie, although I do suspect the film is funnier in YouTube clips than as a whole. Rated: 1/5 Oct 12, 2022 Full Review Tony Black Cultural Conversation Scary Movie is terrible. Not just terrible, but horrible. Rated: 1/5 Feb 14, 2021 Full Review Felix Vasquez Jr. Cinema Crazed Scary Movie might not be a classic, but it's a solid satire of contemporary slasher films that I had a good time with. Ricardo K Me hizo reir bastante, buen humor e icónica Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/17/25 Full Review Lucas A Engraçado pra caramba, ri horrores Rated 4 out of 5 stars 02/12/25 Full Review Alexander S Scary Movie consistently demonstrates that a parody film can be successful with clever material and a compelling theme. For instance, Scream incorporated actual scary movie trivia into its horror elements, while Scary Movie countered that spoofing popular horror films, such as Scream and others, was a comedic concept for the Wayne brothers. They delivered memorable horror spoof moments and created a random, stupid, and hilarious good time at the movies. Grading: B Rated 3.5 out of 5 stars 02/11/25 Full Review Brady R I loved this film a lot when I was young, but now I think it doesn't hold up very well.
