These gags are hardly the height of inspiration, but it could be that people laugh at them because they're not as pathetic as a character having a penis jabbed through his head like an ice pick.

You can debate the consistency of the quality of humor, but what you can’t debate is the pace of the humor. The jokes per minute is strong in this movie, and even if one bit doesn’t land, there will be another one that will in about a minute.

I remember enjoying this more when I was younger but some jokes are really rough and problematic through an adult lens. If you're a fan of "Scream" though, there are some great relevant jokes that still hit.

Scary Movie is a wildly funny and endlessly quotable spoof that brilliantly tears apart the biggest horror hits of its era while celebrating them at the same time. Anna Faris delivers a standout performance as Cindy, transforming the role into an instant comedic icon with her fearless timing and perfectly awkward charm. The screenplay smartly blends jokes from Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, and countless others, creating a chaotic but surprisingly cohesive parody. What makes the film work so well is how committed it is to its absurdity—every gag is bigger, louder, and more ridiculous than the last. It’s the perfect movie for anyone who loves to laugh at the genre’s clichés instead of taking them seriously. Even years later, it remains one of the most effective and entertaining spoofs ever made, a comedy that still hits hard and proves that sometimes the best way to enjoy horror is to completely make fun of it.

Everyone who likes horror films should see Scary Movie. Shorty was funny. As for the other ones... go ahead and indulge if you like, but you'd mostly be wasting your time. I'm glad this genre exists though. Just one more spoof genre people can contribute too which is always cool.
