David Stratton The Australian Boarding school, especially for these youngsters (aged eight to 12) has rarely looked more appealing. Rated: 3.5/5 Nov 3, 2017 Full Review Wendy Ide Observer (UK) File this charming documentary alongside Être et Avoir in the list of films that make the case that teachers are the closest thing we have to superheroes in everyday life. Rated: 4/5 Oct 15, 2017 Full Review Kevin Maher Times (UK) There are some lovely observations from the directors Neasa Ni Chianáin and David Rane, especially the scenes of music lessons. Rated: 3/5 Oct 12, 2017 Full Review Heidy Morales Hye's Musings School Life is a reminder of how important the role of teacher is in the formative years of one's lives. It is an entertaining and charming story that can be enjoyed alone, with friends and family as well. Rated: 3/5 Feb 20, 2021 Full Review Charlotte Harrison VultureHound Immersive, intimate, and charming. Jan 27, 2020 Full Review Alistair Ryder The Digital Fix School Life is likeable, but not lovable, due to how we never truly get to know about these inspirational teachers outside the classroom. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 01/18/23 Full Review Audience Member This is simply one of the best films of the year and should serve as a model for what our education system SHOULD NE. Nurturing students is one of the primary objectives of education and having teachers who truly care, are compassionate and are brilliant at what they do Kudos and go see this film! Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/02/23 Full Review Audience Member I saw this Documentary at The Sheffield Film Festival back in July.An interesting feature length documentary involving two teachers who have spent many years at Headfort School, the only primary aged boarding school left in Ireland. With retirement looming they wander what their future will bring. The film explores the interaction between student and mentor during a 12 month period of rather unorthordox teaching. The documentary is well filmed, with the pupils seemingly oblivious to cameras and crew. The school itself is on an 18th century estate in Kells, Southern Ireland and appears to be a perfect environment for schooling these children of many nationalities. Directed by Neasa Ni Chianain (The Stranger & Fairy Tale of Kathmandu) Produced by David Rane (Sir Gawain and The Green Knight) The film has won The Golden Gate Award-Special Jury at San Francisco International Film Festival and Prix du Public-Grand Angle Section at Visions du Reel Festival International de Cinema Nyon Rated 5 out of 5 stars 02/01/23 Full Review Read all reviews
